Not sure if this will effect AMA SX but apparently FIM have banned burn outs and will fine riders if they do it.

Here's why...

I doubt it will affect Supercross. Sounds like they had an issue in Europe with a runway being damaged after the 6 days. I can't figure out how you do $60,000 worth of damage with dirt bike tires.

Ok its on air port tarmac runways. This is reasonable to stop burnouts for that event. If the tarmac is soft it will put pot holes into the pavement. Its not some shitty road that a works department can slap more asphalt on and let the planes pack it down.

Classic

$60K damage at an airfield is one thing; but, sending out The Fun Police to all events because of that?

Typical

I'm all for fun but I actually think they're dangerous, especially when they're done one-handed in a moment of euphoria. I don't think anyone will miss em.

Anyone remember when Kevin Magee was doing a burnout after finishing 3rd at the 89 Laguna Seca GP & Bubba Shobert crashed into him? Neither raced professionally again, if ever.

Edit Magee crashed a year later at Laguna and suffered serious head injuries.

No victory lap.
No burnouts.
No time for a winner to celebrate with the crowd due to podium TV schedule.

Lame.

Maybe we can get Screetch Christien to tell us how she talked to the FIM on why this came about...all while the racing is live this weekend....

I so can't wait.

I think it's Florida state law that you must do a burnout after winning any race at Daytona. Sorry, FIM, I had to!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the FIM was no longer involved in AMA Supercross?

You think racing motorcycles while jumping through the air is safe?

The nanny state has really done a number on people, burnouts are now dangerous and crowds don’t really like it Pinch

The burnouts after the ISDE get pretty wild, to the point the mousse flies out of tire. Last years was good, and indeed there was some serious asphalt torn up. A slap on the wrist and fine? Ok. Ban all burnouts at all FIM events? That’s too much.

There were claims his front brake stuck.

Irrespective, it was a terrible day.

Of course not but there's a point to racing and there are measures in place to mitigate at least some risk. I'm not sure you can say the same for burn outs.

AMA is still a signatory to the FIM codes, from what I understand.
Although he isn't in charge of Supercross, this is a good question for DC.

I'm waiting for the impending article about the FIM PR that reads...
