I’m gonna say preseason injury of some sort. I would like to think he has the bike setup figured out. Look how well he did at the Monster Energy Cup. But then if he still has a nagging injury the triple crown race win and the Oakland heat race win doesn’t make sense. Doubt we will ever know if he was hurt or not

Honestly I think ET3 just isn't getting the starts he needs. When he gets them, he wins (ie MEC and heat races), when he doesn't he fights through the pack and I think he is being smart about it and not pushing too hard. He hasn't had a win yet, I believe he has gone 3-4-4-4. Which isn't terrible, he's not crashing out and getting DNF or like 15th like he has in the past. He is only 3 points out of the championship. Not really seeing that as a bad thing at the moment.

Somethings going on as he definitely isn’t the same rider right now period!! No way he has dropped this much speed without some sort of issue IMO!! Still waiting for him to unleash it and hope he figures it out as it’s painful watching Marvin and Blake pass him and then check out!!

The pre season injury is also a lack of testing with the new bike. He need time to uncork that bike.

Absolutely. I just keep thinking how good he looked at the MEC tho. He just seemed to really gel with the bike back then

I think he has to go all in order to win, he’s not good at “playing it safe” and managing a 3rd. That track was one lined though, so I’m sure it was hard for these top 5 guys to make up time. Shit tomac might have gotten 3rd last night, I honestly forgot. I just miss the tomac we saw last season. He is riding smart for sure, just thought he would have been up there on the podium or 1st place by now

ME cup didn't have whoops and could be the only difference maybe. But I think we are just seeing a reserved Tomac and last year's speed will show up soon.

You may be right. Hes actually been kinda bad when he tries to back it down. When he just goes flat out is when hes at his best. That may have something to do with MXON hes trying to ride safe and not get injured and for some reason when he does that he falls off the pace much more than he should.

Uptite says Eli is nursing an injury. Good enough for me. But please start another thread.

Last night he was still trying to blitz the whoops when he should have switched over to jumping, especially the second set. He was for sure losing time there. He also messed up the jump before the triple and had to go single-double which dropped him right out of the battle he was having. But it was weird how both he and Kenny were eaten up by Marv and Baggett, after Marv had crashed back to them. Maybe the track was just a pumpkin track!

Still his 3-4-3-4 start is much better than last year's 22-DNS-1-1, which is 80 points vs 53 points. While 2017 and 2018 Eli was spectacular to watch, a more conservative 2019 Tomac is more likely to end up with the title.

In the interviews like after he won his heat he talked about having trouble getting into his flow, and he’s said that multiple times now this season. It could be part mental, and him having trouble getting comfortable, and into his groove.

Regardless he’s 3rd in points, and points at top are all pretty close. So as of right now it’s anyones season.

I think it's a case of "not feeling it".

Beast mode will engage it's a matter of when, I hope it's not too late when he happens.

I think it's the other riders. Everyone has stepped up their game for this year. Not just the Bakers factory boys like the last few years.

YES!! THANK YOU.

Tomac and Roczen were getting dropped by just blitzing.

Pretty interesting that orange bikes went 1-2-3 on a track with gnarly whoops and a huge huck to flat. Was a 'flexier' frame a big advantage that guys on other brands couldn't overcome?

He hasn't ridden all that well so far (comparatively), and he's still only 3 points back after 4 rounds. Sounds like he's doing pretty well so far, actually!

Whatever it is, I'll bet a whole bunch of people speculating on Vital can figure it out.

He knew he was playing Russian roulette with every twist of the throttle, oh hell, I don't know. Kawasaki knows what's going on, that I do know.

DeCoster destroyed Tomac. By picking ET for the desNation's team, RD put the weight of the world on him. When he got spanked, his confidence left him. His only hope now is to buy out of his contract and move to Florida. Maybe Aldon will let him sleep in the barn. He'll have to score an orange FE, preferably an '18 model. A factory ECU will be a must. DeCoster owes him that much. If he can nurse his current bike to the finish for a couple more races, he could still be a factor in the championship.

Honestly its hard to pinpoint any single factor or combination of factors.

I think this field is ridiculously stacked and if you're off your game even slightly it will look much worse than previous years. Tomac will find form and win races. So long as hes not losing a lot of points before that happens he's atleast staying in the hunt.

At what round will he win ?
I’ve got Marvin for SAN Diego so that’s out

The big advantage the other brands couldn't overcome was the three guys riding the KTMs Wink
