What about bringing back the +30A class at Lorretta Lynns for 2010! I like riging the Vet classes and it would give me another class to ride besides the +25 JR.

I asked the same question last season. He pretty much summed it up that there is alot of classes already and no room in the program. I ride 25+ and 30+. I have never been a pro or rode "A" class so I was hoping they would do something like that to give guys like me a chance. I never have been to happy about the fact that technically RC could ride the 25+ class. Hell it is bad enough with Emig riding the 30+.

If you've never been a pro or rode the "A" class aren't you elligible to ride Vet B 30 +?

If you haven't ridden pro or A class, the +30 A at Loretta's wouldn't be a lot of fun if you were able to qualify.

Those boys are mighty fast.. Of course all the classes there are fast. The "LL" Vet B race is full of riders that would do very well in the local Vet A races across the US..

I can do fine with normal Vet classes but I do occasionally see the guys my age who had their pro licenses at one time running them. I agree though, alot of those guys are mighty fast. Hell John Grewe in my district is in the 40+ class and beats alot of 16 y/o "A" class kids.

Ya but they used to have a 30A till like 3 or 4 years ago and they quit having that class again. Im far from able to ride the B/C class since I used to have my Pro License and I can still win the Open A and 250A against some pretty fast company thats why Im asking.... I don't see no reason why they wouldn't want it back its only more money for them. That and another class for alot more riders that just wanna ride the Vet classes and enjoy themselves..

As already mentioned, they have the absolute maximum number of allowable classes now.

They had to double gate one of the vet classes already this year.
Listening to two of the guys I know that raced that double-gated class it was not real popular.

jndmx,

They double-rowed the +45 and +50 classes, limiting entry to 30 and 20, respectively, rather than 42 on the gate, so there were only eight more guys. There's a paradigm shift across the whole sport right now, with less minicycle racers and more older riders, and it was at the suggestion of many of the riders in +45/+50 we try that double class out, because once you crack 50, there's really no place to go. But there's no room in the program for another class, and that was the compromise.

DC, nice to see you are recognizing the shift to more vet riders. That is a scary view down the road. Our feeder program is dwindling and us old guys can only ride so long...

Well, unless your Feets...

What was the feedback on the double drop +45/+50?

We are going to try it again in 2010, but with different color bibs so riders know who they are and aren't passing. For the most part it was good, and what jndmx wrote above is quite honestly the only negative thing I have heard about it.

I went to watch Thurs-Fri, and eat at Engine Ice Dave's, and I was able to follow the race-within-a-race, but distinctive bibs would be cool, too!

PS- your brother's crash looked serious. I was standing at the fence, but actually missed seeing the impact.

I was kind of trying to make the point that there was already a full schedule.
I thought I was pointing out that there is limited room to add classes, perhaps I didn't word that too well.

Totally understand the compromise part.

The complaints that I heard from the two guys I was talking with was that they had a tough time telling who they should be racing with and who they should let run their own race.
Both also did say that adding the markings to the bibs to differentiate the classes helped.

I'm definitely not trying to be a "monday morning" promoter....lol.

Man, no worries, I didn't take it that way. But the bibs (maybe silver numbers for one group, gold for the other) would have made it better to differentiate and we will fix that for sure.

That's cool, like I said just don't want to sound like a know-it all.

I actually did tell you during the event that I couldn't believe how hard you were working.

I was the guy that shook your hand after you pushed/dragged the guys bike off the track with no rear tire on it.

Life was so much easier back then! I do remember that. Loretta's is my favorite week of the year, every year.

I haven't raced at the ranch since 1985. I was glad to qualify and make the show but due to some officials mistake before the first moto, instead of the #14 gate pick that I drew, I ended up around 34th(far outside)!! Because of a far outside gate position I was stuck mid-pack(normally I do well on starts) on the first lap and ran into another rider when he squided out, fell and broke my front brake lever and that seemed to set the tone for my week. I was expecting to be top 10 even though this was like my 6th race in ten years. Angry

Other than my personal dilemmas, I thought the whole experience was fantastic and everyone at MX Sports did a great job(except for the starting line officials, one lady and one older man specifically). Whew, thanks for letting me vent.Cool

Hmmm.....

Why not just assign certain numbers to 45+ and others to 50+

say - 1-49 t0 45+ and 50-99 to 50+

That would keep from having to have different colors for such a small number of bibs.

If that doesn't fly then simply require 45+ riders to sue a generic sports cream and only allow 50+ to use Ben gay.

they could tell by the smell if they are racing with someone in their class or not.

I wonder how running all the vet classes at the end of the week before would work? I know Ponca is running then, but they don't have a huge vet turnout. That would give plenty of time for more vet classes. It would be a true vet national seperate from the rest of the classes. Friday-Sunday would do it. You could even put in a vintage class or two.

So there are more older riders than younger ones at freakin Loretta's the biggest youth am race in the sport? That can't be good for the future of the sport.

Maybe that has a lot to do with.....oh I don't want to say it so.......I'll call it "rising cost of the sport due to a recent type of engine takeover?"

I can't be sure that is the reason but where there's smoke there's fire

I think the 4 stroke class...should be called an open class, that's what it is! My only suggestion as it seems a 2 stroke class would create too many issues!

I bet 125 youth is gone soon. sadly!

That was one of my favorite classes this year, and anyone who says those bikes are slow should watch those kids rip! I think best lap time I saw this year for a 125 was a 2:04. Fastest all week for all classes was a 1:59....To say that 125 was strung out is an understatement!

If you love racing, and have the time...go to LL as just a vacation! It's worth it!

Lightning, sorry to poke a hole in that theory but those kids that aren't racing would be racing two-strokes if they were, not four-strokes.... The problems with the dealerships last spring and the Lead Youth Ban or whatever it was called should not be underestimated here.
