I get a ton of questions on Beta Alanine and questions on supplements that benefit motocross riders/racer's, So I figured I would post up a article I like explaining the benefits of Beta Alanine.

Beta Alanine

How many of you have taken a pre-workout supplement and been disappointed? Are you like me and just feel shaky and hyper only to crash an hour later? Beta Alanine is one of my favorite supplements and it has the science to back it up! It is backed by major universities, has peer-reviewed studies performed on HUMANS! Not a cell, rat or goat! The science behind beta alanine is pretty simple, and it works!

Beta Alanine is a non-essential amino acid and is the only natural occurring beta-amino acid. Don’t confuse it with regular alanine, it is classified as a non-proteinogenic amino acid as it is not believe to be used in the building of proteins. Ok so by now your probably asking what are the benefits of Beta Alanine. Here they are!

Increased muscular strength and power output
Increases muscle mass
Increases anaerobic endurance
Increase aerobic endurance
Delayed muscular fatigue
Increased vasodilation/pumps

Who can benefit from supplementing Beta Alanine?

Weight lifters and bodybuilders
High intensity cross training athletes (such as MMA fighters, runners, motocross racers, hockey players, cyclists etc.)
Active individuals (men or women) who have reached a training plateau

Research has shown that you can take between 3.2 grams to 6.4 grams per day. I recommend somewhere right in the middle around 4 grams per day. One interesting thing with Beta alanine is it gives you a strange “pins and needles” feel on your skin, almost the same feeling as taking Niacin. Many users experience intense vasodilation/pumps from even the first dose! Beta Alanine increases Carnosine and carnosine is a powerful precursor in generating nitric oxide synthase.

I've taken Beta Alanine before and Although I did notice a good benefit in muscle endurance (my arms/legs didn't get as tired). I felt it hindered my cardio though. I noticed I was breathing harder than usual while on it.

Interesting you bring up this mineral....not many people have heard about Vanadyl Sulfate. Although it is much less talked about then Beta Alanine. They do act differently though as Vanadyl Sulfate is a form of the trace mineral Valadium that works much like insulin in the body, and increases the amount of glucose and amino acids driven into the muscles. Beta Alanine is used to increase carnosine.

Interesting... I have always wondered if one day we could see what some of the top pro's are taking in terms of supplementation.

The increase in pumps and vasodialation is not good for motocross. It causes increased arm pump.
But for weight training I have found it to work very well with creatine

How many motocrossers are using AICAR? I read about it in 'New Scientist' in 2008! It seemed perfect for our sport.

Exactly. Most of these new supplements all increase pum p not what you want for riding. Most supplements in general are bs and a waiste of money. Eat real food not protein powders, maybe take a multi-vitamin and you are good. You want increased performance take PEDs

I agree with you chrisbuehler, but some can benefit the athlete! If you are traveling a lot having a good protein powder as a meal replacement is key in my opinion. Obviously real food is always better, but sometimes its just not possible.

As for the arm pump issue.....I feel like it really is down to the rider and to many factors go into it. I tested this on myself....I took everything "they say" causes arm pump and had no issue's, But then there is sometimes where you don't take anything and get arm pump horribly. To many factors to blame on one thing. Performance Enhancing Drugs is a whole nothing issue I wont get into! lol

Not sure if "Jack3d" contains Beta Alanine but it made me neck and ears tingle and it worked awesome !!! For a normal fat guy who sits around all week and tries to race on the weekends with no training aside from a class of wine every night, it absolutely made a difference.

It contains beta alanine, but what you should be even more worried about is the 1, 3 dimethylamylamine which is now a banned substance. I bet it made you feel good though, it´s a powerful stimulant. The problem with Jack3d is the crash you get after a couple of hours.
Products that make you more vascular or give you pumps are just like doing a 1 hour arm session in the gym before riding. It makes your arms rock hard when riding. They are a big no-no for MX

Not to be an ass...but the first site that popped up when I googled beta alanine is basically word for word what you wrote here...so either you wrote that article in 2006 or you plagiarized someone else...

You are right, I posted the wrong article (have hundreds of articles etc on my laptop and clicked wrong beta alanine one) That is not the one I wrote. Guess I should stop posting in a hurry and double check what i'm posting! lol. Fixed original post.

Moral of the thread is to get a good discussion going on supplements and how to use them properly. I tried to get a good discussion going in my other thread about my E-Book (That I actually wrote Wink lol), but it just went to crap as you can see lol!

I don`t believe for one second that you have tested "everything" they say causes arm pump without issues when riding motocross. My bet is you don`t ride motocross, or you`re trying to sell Vitalmembers ON products.

Arm pump is a motocross riders worst enemy. And you are now trying to say that a product which is made to increase pump and vascularity is not an issue? It`s like saying you prefer to ride a bike with flat tires.

There is so much wrong in this post im not sure where to start.....

#1- I don't get anything from ON for pushing their products....I am sponsored by them, I dont make commission...nor did I EVEN MENTION ON'S PRODUCTS.

#2- Hopefully the photo of my Pro Card proves I am who I say I am....

Hope that foot taste's good in your mouth.
