I'm looking for a little perspective from older MX riders.

i've been doing crossfit for the last couple months and it has really helped my balance more than anything. obviously i'm in great shape now as well, but it seriously is amazing what it has done for my balance.

i'm 28, so i have a bit to go, but crossfit is friendly and productive for all ages. just a suggestion.

I don't know if this is a good place to ask. Most people here are unbalanced.

Don't know that I've really suffered much of a loss of balance. Eyesight, hearing, ability to eat two dozen hot wings and walk the next morning; all started sliding downhill quickly when the clock passed 4-0.

But my balance was never as good as I would have liked even when I was younger, and it hasn't worsened. I wonder if that's really something that is strictly age related or more injury or fitness related.

Oh, and by the way, thanks for spelling "Lose" correctly.

I had my best balance at 40 until I suddenly lost it.

Seriously, slow down just a bit after your 30's. I hear your body will thanks you for it?

I'm in my early 40's and hit the track once a week. Lately I've been noticing I'm popping out of ruts, getting off line, jumping to short or long more often. Even around the house clipping doorways or corners with my shoulders or toes. It's not a real big problem right now I'm just staring to notice it. Just wondering if your balance (or whatever you want to call it) is like eyesight with age?

It seems for me it was the day I fell out of the vagina. I was a 12 pounder though, so I guess covered in slime, AND the weight, weren't working in my favour. Told I bounced off the floor a couple of times before they manged to get a firm grip on me. My guess is, that had a long term effect on me. I'm not a doctor, but it's a guess. Oh BTW I'm 49.

43 years old now and haven't noticed any major loss of balance. Fractured vertebrates, bad knees, and bifocals all probably make me look a bit off balance at times though. Just a thought but maybe you have something wrong like an ear infection or something??? Might be time for a check up.

When I was about 5 months old I'd try to sit up and just tip right over. That pretty much started it for me.

The human body starts to die at age 25, so it is pretty much all down hill from there.

At 50, I don't think my balance in in question. But flying thru the desert with eyesight, not what it use to be, is a little scary. And the endurance? Forgetaboutit !

My dad is 50 about to be 51 and his balance is still good. He standup jet skis, rides, flatland BMX and stuff like that. You lose it I think once you don't try and keep it in tune. He built a tight rope a couple years back to help improve his balance. He got to a point he could walk it forward and backwards. He also has a dirt bike he can wheelie an entire motocross track. Yes just like Doug Demokos. The again some would say he isn't human. When he was battling down in Loretta's for a 40+ title in 03 DC said he had the stomach of a 17 year old. He drives truck by the way. lol

I'm 61 an still got good balance. It's the floaters in the eyes that make lines hard to see for me and dim lite.

Early 50s for me. Mid 50s I started to really notice a loss of reflexes. In some ways, it's nice to just be aware that I can't ride very fast, so it's much more relaxing to go out and ride these days. I totally enjoy it, and if I concentrate I can still keep up with my son for a while, so it's really a blessing for me. In a few years, I won't be able to do that any more, that's just the way it goes.

Exactly, reflexes are what changes most. I really notice it most when I push hard into corners and need to react quickly with braking, turning and clutch all at once withot blowing over the berm..... Grinning

38 years old been racing my whole life and still race with my 2 boys. I don't think its as much a balance issue as much as a confidence issue.

I raced A class until about 27 and noticed that I would think about 100 triples vs it just being automatic. I realized I better get that out of my head or back it down a notch.

My 15 year old started beating me last year and I felt like the old lion going out......but still have a great time riding with my boys!
