Alessi's Bad Luck

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 8:06am
According to story in MotoOnline:

Oz SX: Alessi remains hopeful despite Super X bad luck

Californian Mike Alessi showed his best form of the season early in the night at last weekend’s Launceston round of the 2010 Monster Energy Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, but more bad luck and a groin injury spoiled his hopes of a top result in the main event.

Alessi, riding for the JDR Motorex KTM team in Australia, rode through the pain of a groin injury sustained in the Eliminator Challenge to take ninth overall, the world class American taking 9-7-9 results on the night in the main event – the final race determining the overall result.

“I definitely felt good in practice and was able to qualify in fifth,” the controversial 22-year-old commented. “I struggled really bad in the main event with bad starts, but that’s just the way it goes – if you get bad starts the races are short and you can’t make many passes.

“My bike was good and the team has been working well, but I injured my groin early on in the night so I had to tough it out, try to do the best that I could while riding in pain.”

The result moved Alessi up one position to 11th in the series, however he’s not giving up hope of a solid overall result just yet.

“We’re going to keep working, come back in New Zealand and be strong,” Alessi concluded.

Alessi reminds me of the Cowboys.
The beginning of every year, people say "this is his year to win it".
But then he just crumbles under the pressure.

My thoughts exactly. It's not bad luck, the dude is just a squid on a supercross track. He'll be the king of the lcq's this season.

Haha yeah he's a real squid on a supercross track. Would love to see you flounder your way around a SX track.

Anyway, hope he can get his head straight this year. If anyone can get him going, it's DeCoster.

Yeah, from what I have seen in the highlights of the races Hansen is right. Alessi just flat out looks like a squid out there Dizzy

Why is everyone bagging on Alessi for "only" getting top 10 finishes? Why don't the same people bag on the people that try to qualify but fail? I mean, really, aren't those the ones that must really suck?

I make my way around a SX track pretty well actually. I don't think I'm faster than Alessi on one, though. That's why you don't see me trying to qualify for the night show.

The old "he's better than you" bullshit is kinda tired. I know he's better than me, which is why I'm speaking relatively. Relative to the other factory riders, he's a squid on a supercross track. If he can't even manage a top 5 in Australia, there's no way he's going to make a top 10 or probably even 15 in America. I think he'll be doing good to qualify for every main this season. I'll bet every last penny I have that he doesn't.

You don't go from being a top 5 guy indoors 3 years ago to a top 20 guy. Period. I don't care how many rookies are coming up. The guy is nearly JS level talent...just is having issues physically or mentally right now. Talent is NOT the issue. If Roger can help decode it he will be a contender. Alessi needs to get the eff out of Austrailia and get to testing his SX bike with Roger and the guys. All this is coming from a non-Alessi fan. I just know the kid has talent unlike most factory riders.

Oh, and let's not talk about B riders (yellow backgrounds in youre avatar pic, yes?) riding a SX track.

I can almost guarantee he wont be standing on a american SX podium this year. I would be surprised to see him get top five more than once... outdoor may be a different story but i really dont see a big comeback happening with that guy.

Easy there. Not qualify? For being a "squid" he's made the podium before and was always around the top 5-10. Not exactly a chump. Obviously much better a motocross, he's still so young. I would think last year was a abberation and will be a title threat in moto again come 2011 IMO. He just needs to stay healthly through the supercross season, easier said than done though.

Sure you do. You get an injury, stop racing SX, rookies come up, and others continue to improve indoors. This sport is savage. James Stewart went undefeated and only a couple years later came out, and got a 3-DNF. I might also add the Alessi was never a consistent top 5 guy in SX. His best finish ever was a 3rd if memory serves me correct and he only managed that once.

Alessi is an incredible rider, there's no doubt about it. But when we're speaking relative to all the others out on the SX track, he's got nothing for most of them. You can think what you'd like, but come this next SX season, you'll watch this guy struggle to find a top 10. Motocross is a different story for him, but that's not what we're talking about.

Oh, and I remember this one kid being pulled straight from B class to ride for a factory team and winning his very first SX. I'm no Ryan Dungey, but you don't know a damn thing about how I ride. You cannot judge someone based on backgrounds.

Good points on Alessi, only time will tell. I see him having unreal talent and some mental block that is getting in the way. I hope for his sake this is a breakthrough year for him, because as it is he's on his way out.

As far as riding goes I can judge due to the fact I'm over here in Utah and know the speed of CO B riders. I know i'm an A rider and went to Cole Sieblers track and felt like I was an 85 novice rider. Just sayin....

Mike needs to start thinking seriously about how is going to pay his bills after motocross and SX. Another year like last year and he is toast. Maybe a B Team player for a few years, maybe not. Team budgets will dwindle even more in the years to come.

Hope he has all his earnings in some great investments.....

Again, you don't know a damn thing about how I ride. I was a Texas B class rider and moved to Colorado 5 months ago.

mike isn't the best sx racer but he is damn good one and could be a lot better if his "program" believed it could be. i guess most of the simps like you and the rest of the collective vital brain trust have pretty severe memory loss....put you twats in the same catagory as the dipshits that say stewart has no heart....

Are you Alessi's girlfriend or just an old man on his period? You don't get much of a point across when all you do is toss out names like dick and twat. What a Badass you must be to be able to harness such an extensive vocabulary.

Compared to the other riders you'll see out there on the sx track this season, Alessi is a squid.
