We went to the AX in Hampton Va this weekend expecting to see the top riders. To our supprise only Jin Neese and Kelly Smith were there and ran away with it. Later I found there was a another race in Ohio running the same weekend. WTF going on!! We expected to see the class leaders battling it out not a run away. Live Nation ripped us off!!!!!!!!!!!! Every one I have spoke to says the same. No next year for me.

Seems like you ripped yourself off!

It has been posted since the beginning of the schedule that several weekends have more than one location.

It's the Monster Truck formula where they have events all over the country on the same weekend.

Fans are supposed to be clueless about the riders (or drivers in the case of monster trucks) and simply root for the crashing.

Locally they advertised the riders would be there!! The AX workers were pissed. They were told the same but found out Friday night. We were told via advertising locally they would be there!! They had around 30 riders total. Kelly Smith during an intro's interview stated he came after finding that the rest were going to be in Ohio tso he could get pionts. They should have split the leaders up between the two races. The jump off Friday was a joke. They did not have it on Saturday!

Actually, I also don't like the way this all worked out last weekend. I worked the event all weekend. I had a great time working it and the regular employees really made us feel welcomed. I spoke to several of them and they said many people they talk to don't like the split schedule. They said many of the riders do like the split so they can chose how much they travel. The problem they see is many of the fans in the cities aren't getting a good show. While it was great watching how fast Kelly Smith could go around the track, he was really the only one putting on a show. Many of the other guys were just riding around at half his pace. On both nights, Kelly lapped up to third place and really had no competition what so ever. Then the jump off competition was not very good either. Three riders volunteered to participate. If there was an award for SX air it would have been a tough win. The next night the jump off was canceled due to lack of interest. So much effort was spent to take up time since there weren't many riders at all people got bored in the stands. It's never good if the fans are getting bored in the stands.

I believe the fans expect to see the top riders going for the win. With the split schedule, one city gets to see a good show and the other city pays the same price to watch one, maybe two guys beat up on everyone else. It seems that many of the people in our large club are not going to see the show next time it comes to town if that is how the schedule is going to be.
I think this experiment has failed.....

Gee, yeah right. You watch the TV ads and they tell you which riders you can see if you come to the AX in Hampton, VA. They don't say well maybe you'll see these guys and maybe you won't. Maybe you'll get a top show and maybe you'll get the lappers show...

I don't follow arenacross at all but I just looked at the Arenacross website....

Am I understanding this correctly?

Riders that race [i:1q8txnug]different[/i:1q8txnug] events in different cities on the same night compete against each other in the [i:1q8txnug]same[/i:1q8txnug] points chase?

Nice.

Youngstown had a bigger purse so theres one clue the better riders would go there instead. The jump off was canceled sat night because of a mis understanding between the track builders and live nation which almost turned into a rider and a dozer operator throwing down. They told the riders they had 10minutes to practice, but the track builders wouldn't get off the track to let them practice. It was weird and I don't know why they didn't just tell the track builders to wait 10 minutes..

Actually, the riders were told they would get three practice jumps. That's what was broadcast over the radio to tell the riders and that was the plan. One rider took it upon himself to tell the dozer operator his opinion and then that rider decided to display his "professionalism" at the starting line and afterwards in the pits. And from what I could tell working with the Live Nation people and all the employees, they are one and the same.

LN does not control where the riders go.

You my friend are a baby, you got to see arenacross which is off road motorcycle racing and you are whining about it...

Seriously

In a way, I get this guy's point, but on the other hand, unless you're some noobie poser flatbiller wanna-bee, you should go to races for the racing, not for autograph and goggle begging

Go support racing for racing

Kelly Smith maybe turned out to be the smart one; he's less than 10 points from leader Chad Johnson now.

Look I still think any racing better than watching TV! I would have gone to watch. I am pissed they advertised one thing then did another that is wrong in my book. I think there are laws about that. We had local boys racing so it was a blast to chear them on. Kelly stated that he came down here hoping to gain on the leader in pionts.

They advertise the leaders in the championship. Whether those racers decide to attend any particular round is up to them. Did you notice that they still name all the leaders during the opening ceremonies whether they are there or not?

Arenacross is a lot closer to local racing than it is to MX/SX Pro racing. You really have no idea who is going to be where, or if they will even race on a given weekend. The weekend of KC Teddy Maier drove overnight from Michigan on Friday night to race KC the next day because "everybody" was in Michigan. He won KC and picked up points that way.

Any time there's a two night event on the same weekend as a one night event, you can bet the big names will go to the two night venue.

You could say the same thing about SX , I don't know how many ads they used to run with Pastrana being mentioned when he was out, and all of the new ones have James in them.

You want to see ticked off people you should have heard people complaining about Carmichael not racing MXoN at Matterly Basin a few years ago all the advertisements didn't mention he was out. We knew he wasn't racing but thousands of people didn't.

We went to Youngstown Saturday. Good show. They advertised ticket prices of $16.00. It ended up being $23.50 after the tacked on fees.

Actually, ours was a two day event also.....three if you count us "Spodes" on Sunday... " title="Laughing"> I really thought the track on Sunday was pretty fun even if I'm just a slow old woods racer. I have ridden this event before and was definitely intimidated. This time was much more fun. Maybe not so much challenge for the really fast guys on Sunday but the rest of us mere mortals had a blast.

Hope to see them back again!!!

I thought racers didn't care anything about purse money. It was all about salary and win bonuses.

Alphado, any time you see an advertised ticket price, you know they're going to tack on tax and some kind of "handling fee". BTW...We enjoyed the show. Hope you did too

And on a side note, I didn't realize you're the "Alphado" that contributes to the CRA newsletter :D

The split scheduling in AX is fucking stupid. I repeat, FUCKING STUPID.
The GP's ran by Youthstream don't run multiple races on one weekend paying points out to one class, do they?
No.
Neither does MotoGP, nor NASCAR, nor NHRA, nor Formula 1, nor World Superbike...the list goes on.

But then again, it's Live Nation we're talking about.....
