It's not simply a matter of "harder to use equals better," it's far more complicated than that. Obviously, by any objective measure, especially in racing, a machine that goes faster more efficiently is the better tool for the job. But, we, as humans, have a weird need to anthropomorphize nearly everything, including cars and motorcycles. And as noted fellow bike enthusiast Sir William Lyons said, "The car is the closest thing we will ever create to something that is alive." And it's those little flaws, things that make you work with the machine, which allow us to develop that connection...
