Looking at getting a husky or gasgas 350 and saw a 17 husky with some tasteful mods for a decent price. Any notable differences between 17 and the new ones? I know the fork settings are better on the new ones but I am doing the kyb conversion if I get one. Wasn’t riding in 2017 and honestly never paid much attention to the Austrian bikes in the past but I got my son a husky 65 and they are definitely nice bikes. Thank you for any input.

I had one, great bike and I would go for it. Biggest difference is the frame stiffness, 17 being a bit "softer" than newer models. Plenty of reviews identify this difference and how the older framed bikes handled better.

Keep in mind that they gusseted the newer frame because of some breakage issues, but I don't think it's a reason not to buy one, just keep an eye on it.

The air fork is not as refined as the latest models. If the price is right you can do a SFF mod fairly cheap and get a really nice ride. As long as you are not trying to win the Gravel Pit Nationals.

I'm doing the same thing with an orange '17 350, get on it man.

Can always play with suspension later, at least it gets you riding and getting used to the bike.

Thanks read that awhile ago but I’m at a race and don’t have time to go through it again..I have to decide tomorrow since someone wants to buy my bike when I get home..think I’m going to go for it. Only has 69hrs on it with a yosh pipe..softer frame compared to the newer ones is better for me…will buy it Monday and have to race Sunday so hope it’s dialed.

i rode one recently. it was like a 250f but easy to ride. it was everything i thought it would be, i will note, it does need the holes cut in the airbox, it feels like its breathing a little hard which is what every test reports.

If you get it, do a 365 millenium big bore. it brings the peak hp down from 12k to 10k. pushes it a little closer to a 450 but without the weight

Brent, not sure if you received the DM, but if wydopen isn't interested in your 350, I could be very interested in it.

I had a '17 FC350. Good bike. Honestly, for me, if you can find one in good shape I think it's every bit as good as a new one. Some prefer the frame of the 16-18 as far as better front end feel. It seemed like the upgrades of the 19+ engine were countered by a worse intake, so it seems like a wash. The biggest improvement on the new one is the fork settings. But I still don't love that fork, on the newer ones I rode (was a 450 but still.) So if you do at least a Gold Valve kit or hybrid conversion etc to the 17, it really improves that fork and makes it better than the stock one that the newer model comes with. I had a love/hate relationship with my 350 (although mostly love.) I think they are great bikes but I still ended up getting something else. But if you know you want a 350, there is nothing wrong w getting a 17-18 bike. They are right there w the new ones and can easily be made even better w some changes.

Sorry I didn't get the DM, I think there is a problem with them.

Bike sold the first day, sorry.

No worries Brent, I didn't think the DMs worked either. Doesn't surprise me it sold first day, the photos looks like it's in great shape. Glad it sold very quick for you!

I know it's not my thread but AH387, thanks again man you always have solid input into bike choice, love to see it 👍

And Brent, that 350 looked mint, never liked the white back end but that has totally turned me round on it, super clean.

I picked it up last night. Fairly low hrs but looked like the guy did a desert race and dropped it off at the dealer on the way home. Going to have to tear it down and go through it. Some of the hardware needs to be replaced. Will be doing the kyb conversion when I sell my bike..

Couple questions:

What’s everyone running for gearing?

Was expecting a buttery clutch pull with the hydro but it’s way too stiff for my liking. Is that normal?

Guy hit the side number plate with a 1” holesaw..do they make a vented one for the husky? Didn’t see anything.

I'm running 14/52

No vented plates I'm aware of, but the holes are a good thing. Google some old articles about ZO16's FC250 and you can see the pattern/air box mods.

No idea on the clutch pull, mines good.

Maybe I’ve just seen spoiled with the clutch on my 250. It’s smoother than my friends kawi 450.

There is no vented plate for that gen of Husky. The best way to drill the sidepanel is to do 2 or 3 small holes in a triangle that sort of replicates that line where the sidepanel bulges. You can also buy little mini filter plugs from Uni to fill the hole and it helps keep dust out. Here is what I did on mine.

As far as gearing, that is the million dollar question. You'll hear a bunch of suggestions. I tried going up to a 51 on the back, which was what I settled on but still wasn't totally satisfied with it. It was better than stock though. My friend had the same bike at the time and experimented with combos with the 13t countershaft and it just didn't feel right and he settled on a 14/51 or 14/52, I forget which. I would ride it stock and if you want to get it spinning earlier then go up 1 or 2 in the back sprocket.

Hard to say on the clutch. Mine was reasonably light in the lever. About average.

Here's the pics from the ad..got home late last night and just stuck it in the garage..in the middle of cleaning up my sons husky 65 I just got him, same story with both bikes..not bad until you look up close..it's crazy people pay 12g's for a bike and then barley even wash them..I basically make my bikes look new after ever ride..both bikes had chainlube stains everywhere..crusty bolts, dirt in every crack and crevice.

Dealer didn't even hit it with some sc1 first...guess they dont care when bikes are moving so fast..I had to finance part of this one so my options were limited..will be a good starting point..have races the next two weekends so going to ride my old bike for those...guy was either really heavy or really fast or both..suspension is super stiff..don't even think I'm going to ride it first, going to pull it apart and clean everything and build it right...

The 350 was a great motorcycle, but all of the 2017 models will need a larger battery and the battery box, or else it does not want to start on cold days.

Tusk racing sells the kit.
