This right here. Where are all these expectations for Max coming from? I truly don't know, but does he even have multiple Loretta titles? I know he is fast but don't believe I've seen much hype for him except for having a dad and uncle that had some success racing pro MX/SX. Looked fast at Red Bull straight rhythm until he crashed, but we all know that is nothing near MX racing. Seems many Euros (not all) are just using this as another reason to bag on American MX.

Why bring up his age? Because all the hype around him So, name one champ in the recent history of the MX / SX, who didnt turn pro as soon as he was eligible at age wise Source Wikipedia RC 17 Stew 16 Dungey 17 Villo 16 AC 16 Ando 17 Webb 17 Kroc 15 Herlings 15 Cairoli 16 Gajser 15 (Wow, didn't know that, hs 3-year-old brother Žan was killed in a racing accident) Prado 15 Just few names, and the list goes on and on

I was sure I saw him somewhere on a 125, but I guess not. But yes, as generational as his brother … LOL, hopefully they both heal and stay healed. I wont mention his age, people get tippy

Lawrence went from a 85 straight to emx250. Never rode a 125. He was 14 and went from not qualifying for the first round to going 1-1 at the last round of the year. Hes a generational talent.

Your profile pic makes your post a little ironic. Jett came and did EMX 125/ 250 and I think he did an MX2 GP as well, then ended up getting a deal off the back of his brother( he had to go where he went, which is understandable) in the US, and went to ride Amateur for a season which was baffling at the time to many people here, even if his ultimate goal was to race SX in the US , he was MX2 ready. Roczen was MX2 World Champ at 17 and had left for the USA...

I don’t really understand what he’s been doing though. He’s not long been on a 125 and he already can’t do another season of EMX125 after this one because of his age. I know riders develop at different rates but he’s the same age as Jett Lawrence. He’s a million miles away from that level. Maybe he isn’t expected to reach that level, but the hype around him suggests that people are expecting big things. He seems a bit behind where he should be for his age for the expectation around him

He was 10 secs off Everts pace in the mud , but even in practice he didnt stand out. Race was a lottery, he moved up cos people crashed , then he went down himself. If Everts hadnt fallen with 2 to go he would have got lapped. That said , i am not judging anyone on that race, not even Everts.

Barcia is something else. He'll clean absolutely anyone out if given the chance but when someone dishes it back he whines like a baby. Take a page out of the much younger yet much more mature RJ Hampshire. I love what he said on the podium.

I don’t understand Barcia. He will run it in on anybody then once it’s done to him he plays victim and cries about it

That’s not a good enemy to have when your in the title hunt. Barcia thrives on contact. Could get interesting

I figured you wouldn't know the difference, but since you do you should know better. Compacted dirt vs concrete on your back is not a big difference. And if you think it is, maybe that's why you are working in the dirt.

Different impacts. Different scenarios. and way different outcomes. The hits we saw tonight , were not even the same level as what Dylan did to Christian. Seriously!!?? BUT.....Even though I thought Dylan's move was a shit head head / bad judgement call , I'm still a fan of his. Actually dig the hell out of Dylan's intensity , but I thought that move crossed the line. I think it was more of a mistake than anything else , but to compare that to what we saw tonight? Haha , not even in the same universe.

I didn't realise he was that old.. maybe he was held back to stop burnout? Too much too young?

Not riding the MX2 class doesn't make him a sandbagger. Still being on an 85 did He will be 17 in a few weeks. In contrast, Jorge Prado is 2 years and 2 months older . And has 2 MX2 world Championships. EMX 125 is ages 13 to 17 , so he has to do it this year as he will be aged out. He could have done it in 2016. None of those facts is a criticism, just a fact. I thought he was young. He isn't. Still excited to see him race.

Jett would of gained more experience in those 3 races then he would in another full year of amateurs. Ferrandis didnt even finish his first two sx seasons, he got injured aswell. Sexton didnt he even make it to the night show on his debut. Broke his leg in practice.

And max broke himself at redbull straight rhythm and also sat on a couch so what’s your point ? Most USA guys take there time lately only turning pro later like J cooper was nearly 20 drake was turning 20 ect I think they were meaning not going pro but being on a bigger bike like 125 last year then maybe 250 at when he’s turning 17 not actually going pro this early, you can stay at Loretta’s until your 25 so no rush to go pro but when your racing a 85 size bike at 16ish when most 14/15...

Exactly my thoughts. When the ‘kid’ was on a supermini... he was older, taller, and stronger than the competition. If he gets good results in 250 B or 250 A.... then I’d understand the hype.

Its not criticism, its just stating facts If he is fast , that's fine, but is he fast because he is the oldest and biggest in his class? I don't know the answer. It just shows the disparity from each side of the pond.. Tim Gajser is a double world champion and he is younger than Shane McElrath. And like you say RC went pro at 17.. Vohland is 17 is 3 weeks. DC's mission to get a 125 series going is awesome, it needs to recognize the guys that win it . Just seen a video for Matterley basin...

Yeah everyone on here seems to be praising this kid for being wicked on a supermini, but he should have been on a big bike for the last two years. He sandbagged HARD the last couple years IMO. Jett Lawrence is younger than him leading main events In SX and top 20’s in MX as soon as he turned 16.
