Just an old timer from the S.F.V. who did pretty well in the 50's and 60's until he hit his head and couldn't race anymore. He was super close to the Ekin's brothers, and Steve McQueen. As a young kid in the 70's they'd all be over at my grandparents house in Reseda for Sunday dinner and I had no idea who anyone was. Oh to go back in time and be able to be a fly on the wall.

Smets was indeed the hard working, showing tons of grit guy, starting MX at age 18 (EIGHTEEN), on a CR500. Jumping on a Husaberg enduro bike and falling in love with the 4 stroke power and winning 5 world championships! But how gifted do you need to be to become WC in MX, when you enter the sport at 18? That is the age some of his competitors where already racing GPs. About Belgian wildcards, I think Desalle was the best with 2-2 in Unadilla. Everts went 5-5 back in 97 in Unadilla, struggling a bit with the production bike.

SX title is probably tops in the industry…. It has the viewership and brings the big $$. I like it all, but the outdoor MX format is still my favorite watch.

Mathes called the scoop tire Eli's "blankie" in the review pod, Lewis called the scoop tire his "emotional support animal" to Ian Harrison, Eli's boss... This is a grown man we're talking about, and one of the best riders the sport has ever seen, and this is the respect he gets? I think the moto media has gotten a little high on their own farts lately and feel too comfortable taking jabs at the guys out there putting their lives on the line for our entertainment.

That’s modern day life mate. Everyone, everywhere, all the time getting on social media and making a big deal out of absolutely fuck all. Life before the internet and all this childish bullshit was so much better.

I like Lew, he's been a nice addition to moto media. I just find this whole "investigative journalism" stuff pretty gay and a waste of time and energy. Just enjoy the racing, I don't know why we need answers to all the hypotheticals. The amount of time spent each week on podcasts, social media, etc. making predictions and assumptions that usually don't become reality literally a few days later is kind of weird. There's so many variables in motocross, those predictions almost never come true. They spent Sunday - Friday talking about what's going to happen, almost none of it...

I see Ryan Dungey being supportive and reassuring. Probably more of a “you got this” conversation rather than a technical breakdown. They have both been under championship pressure. Ryan is one of the few people in the world who can relate to the emotions Eli must be going through.

What I stated wasn't as a "superfan" (although Eli, Jo ,Casey Cochran and Villo are/were my favorites) , I stated what I feel is common sense . At this stage of his life and career , I don't think he needs to share any personal information that he doesn't feel comfortable with. He's earned that right. At least from me -- I'm definitely not someone who feels "entitled" like some of these people on here. If Roczen, Eli, or Webb announced tomorrow that they were retiring, I would not go on a rampage and blowing up Vital demanding to know...

Correct--- 16 years of Pro racing , he's already cemented his legacy and has done quite well for his 'sponsors' and amassed tens of thousands of fans over the years .Not sure if him keeping his personal business/issues/injury between him,his family and employers at this point will tarnish anything.lol

entitled to your opinion but don't think it applies here. Tomac's legend is etched into the history books and fans and sponsors are not jumping off the bandwagon as he rolls towards retirement on his own terms.
