southwick_mx Started a new thread RM250 2005 project finished

Done. Took her out yesterday for a quick shake down. Put some 99 octane pump gas/Elf HTX976 in the tank, and it fired up on the third kick. Always a pleasure starting up a project bike for the first time after having it rebuilt from a totally disassembled state! The bike is FAST, but then again, I've been off 250cc...

Owned the bike since 2003-4, rebuilt the engine with all new bearings, seals, piston, rode a bit here and there until 2010, then bike sat in the garage for 10 years. Starting point, February 2021 Fresh gas, started on the 5th kick or so Smile Idea was to do a full restoration in original colors but.. it went to a bit different route. Stay tuned, updating shortly.

Where are all you premix sniffing, two stroke loving zealots? Luke Renzland takes a 125 to ‘Dilla and scores a point with a 20th in Moto 2 and not a peep. This is after posting. 23rd in moto 1 in the Sands of Southwick. The kid is flying the Flag for you and no love! Is the “I spoke with my wallet” movement dead?

Never, ever, tell Mom how much that cost.

"First thing" means it would be when they were first starting out and were slow on the track so I told them to keep to the sides of the track and let the faster riders have the main lines. Most importantly, if a faster ride is about to over take them, ALWAYS hold their line, NEVER try to guess where they are and move out of their way, and let the faster rider find their way around them. #1 safety rule IMHO for a new rider starting out on a track with other riders.

Work on technique and the speed will come. It is hard to get rid of bad habits.

We are all getting older and our time will come soon also. I hope one day vital rule #1 is If you dont have anything good to say dont say anything at all. Joe was clipped constantly trying to stand for the greater good but the negative slugs always won. Im very interested in the bikes and parts he owned and will pay over market value. Sad all his posts and knowledge got deleted from this site.

I'm getting old. I'm 62 now and have been around this board and the previous ones that led to Vital for many years. Through those years I've met and become friends with many really great people, all sharing the love for MX. This board has been responsible for some pretty amazing things. Raising money for kids to get started racing and riding, raising money for riders who were in really tough situations, assisting new riders in getting started (after ridiculing them for a brief hazing period), and generally doing good things for others. At the same time, there have been...

When I first got in to the vintage scene I was the guy at his trailer drooling over his bikes. The guy had never met me in my life and walked up to me and said "Want to ride it?". I've been his biggest fan since.

Very sad to hear this....hard to believe. RIP Joe. When I was putting together a clapped out 81 YZ250, was in a tight spot and not able to find a discontinued part. Joe sent me what I needed and wouldn't take any money from me. What's that tell you about a person?

Well, she’s all done. It’s been a long road and many many hours to restore this beast. Was able to get some pictures yesterday of it and rode it up and down the road (due to mud here in ny). Just a little air screw adjustment and it’s running great. Want to thank my buddy Brandon Meier for all the hard work and for him pushing me to work long hours on this project. The time has come to get it posted up for sale. I’ll make a for sale post for it, but if anyone is interested, contact me...
