I had a 400sb in a 79 K5 blazer back then. The Pontiac and the Chevy 400’s were completely different though, even though both came from GM. Yeah your Z28 sounds like it will get up on its hind legs.

Yeah those bandit cars were cool. I’ve seen car shows where they recreated those wheels in a larger diameter than what was available back then. I think they were called snowflake wheels and the honeycomb were on the earlier years. I use to see the early trans ams rolling the streets with the 455’s under the hood in the 80’s...

I'll likely have to get new rims, as I believe somewhere down the line somebody stripped the gold anodizing off of them. This bike will have gold rims again. I used Full Circle Racing for my CR 480 that I did. I may go with Excel Takasago for this one. I'll powdercoat the hubs, and polish the spokes, providing that I don't snap any of them lol. These are the Full Circle Rims on the 480 I just did.

On my 95, both front and rear oem wheels had a small hairline crack on the shoulder of each wheel and I cut the spokes for easy hub removal. Once the spokes were cut, the front wheel completely snapped a few weeks later.

I just picked this bike up this morning 10 hours from me. The drive was worth it. It's a running/riding bike with great bones. Came with a huge tote full of NOS Honda parts. Gaskets, seals, bearings , etc..... Probably $700-$800 worth of stuff. Plan is to do a full cosmetic resto, new tires, fix the seat (foam is cut), gold rims, I'll keep the FMF Fatty, and fix some odds and ends. It already has the water pump fixed with a later year aluminum cover.

Seen it before on OEM rims, I've had a few TIG welded, one cracked again soon after but the other one I still have in my shelf and used daily until I converted my WRF to super moto. With the rim that cracked again I think it has more to do with the guy I had weld it rather than what I was using the bike for.

Buying new rims for my 95 Honda cr500. Running a Kenda Parker/Baja 120/100/18 rear tire. Should I run a 2.50/18 wheel rather than the 2.15 for desert riding? I had a Dunlop 120/100 on a 2.15 prior. My old 79 YZ400 come factory with a 2.50/18 and a 510/18 tire. Wouldn’t the wider rim allow for better bead seating with...

I’m doing a complete resto on my 95 CR500. Have already gone through the forks, linkage, wheels, bearings and the motor is up next. I’ve had the bike for 3 years and it was a good running bike. Previous owner owned it for 19 years and seldom rode it, was a well kept bike. Rear tire is a Dunlop 739...

socalsand Added a reply to Clutch push screw/push lever

What your seeing in my old one is the adjusting screw that allows adjustment from the outside cover to the clutch push rod. The pic of the new one doesn’t show the adjusting screw inside yet. But the adjusting screw has no relation to holding the lever into the push screw.

socalsand Started a new thread Honda CR500 frame rust/cancer.

I have a 95 CR500. Perfect running bike that I ride desert with. Been hesitating breaking down the bike for a frame repair and full resto while in the process. Bottom side of frame has a rust through spot on both frame rails. What’s your opinion on fixing and what process would you use to repair it?

Correct, it does have relief holes in the bottom. this bike was owned by the same person for 20 yrs and a relatively a low hour bike, but set for a long time between rides. Others have stated that this is a common issue with these Cr frames. I was hoping for a fix without stripping to bare frame. Looks...
