Buying new rims for my 95 Honda cr500. Running a Kenda Parker/Baja 120/100/18 rear tire. Should I run a 2.50/18 wheel rather than the 2.15 for desert riding? I had a Dunlop 120/100 on a 2.15 prior. My old 79 YZ400 come factory with a 2.50/18 and a 510/18 ... more »

I’m doing a complete resto on my 95 CR500. Have already gone through the forks, linkage, wheels, bearings and the motor is up next. I’ve had the bike for 3 years and it was a good running bike. Previous owner owned it for 19 years and seldom rode it,

What your seeing in my old one is the adjusting screw that allows adjustment from the outside cover to the clutch push rod. The pic of the new one doesn’t show the adjusting screw inside yet. But the adjusting screw has no relation to holding the lever ... more »

If I had it welded I’d still want to strap it.

Correct, it does have relief holes in the bottom. this bike was owned by the same person for 20 yrs and a relatively a low hour bike, but set for a long time between rides. Others have stated that this is a common issue with these Cr frames. I was hoping ... more »

Yeah that looks real good. I guess I’ll be looking for a good fab shop. I’d like to have all new fresh metal in there like yours rather than patch work as well. Skid plate looks pretty good welded in as a whole. Thanks for the info and pictures....Doug. ... more »

You still around on this site? Question regarding your frame repair from 2012.

Added reply in a thread Honda CR500 frame rust/cancer. 5/15/2018 3:44 PM

I agree. I could probably use 1/8” flat stock, heat and bend around to fit solid then weld around the ends.

Thanks for the info! That was my thought, a guy who restores bikes said he would cut the section out and fit in a piece and reweld it. I don’t like the idea of cutting the frame if not absolutely necessary.

I have a 95 CR500. Perfect running bike that I ride desert with. Been hesitating breaking down the bike for a frame repair and full resto while in the process. Bottom side of frame has a rust through spot on both frame rails. What’s your opinion on fixing

Yeah I was referring to the rear fender. The 2000 and 2001 have different part numbers for some reason.

Added reply in a thread Honda Cr500 5/7/2018 11:43 AM

Yeah it was the nuclear red color. But in 2000 Honda had changed the color which should have carried through 2001(last year of the CR500). The OEM part numbers are different though for 2000 and 2001 so not sure if it’s for fitment or color.

Started new thread Honda Cr500 5/1/2018 1:23 PM

Anyone know the color changes? From 91-99 Honda used the florescent red except for the rear fender in 97 was white. But in 2000-2001 I thought they went to a new style red. The OEM site shows the 2000 and 2001 as having different part numbers for the ... more »
