"It is also possible to use worn rear mousses for the front, that way you save quite a bit by buying only rear ones." I don`t think so because you won`t be able to fit it in the front tire(s)...

From my experience... durability wise the Michelin is the best by far, but also quite expensive. I´m currently using Dunlop in one wheel set and Technomousse in my spare wheel set, both good grip wise and also quite affordable.

I would also suggest the older return spring version if you`re facing problems with the current one. Strange but I had three bikes since MY16 and not a single broken spring?!? The steering stem nut from the actual Freerides have a holoe inside and they should also fit... but as some guys already mentioned drilling for sure is the cheaper...

Imo the trax springs aren`t broken as I´ve heard that kind of noise on some TRAX shocks now... nevertheless checking all bearings (linkage, swingarm, etc...) is a good idea anyway.

This sound is normal for a TRAX shock as it`s the Trax mechanism that you hear there. Depending on how many Trax springs are installed inside the effect and also "sound" is more or less. I wouldn`t worry about it too much.
