Taking Greenland by force wouldn't be just shooting yourself in the foot, you'd be blowing blow both your legs off.

There's always been radicals on both sides but they were largely seen as such by the more moderate people who otherwise agreed with them. The radicals existed but the grown ups still dominated the important conversations. Two things have changed. Social media being able to use algorithms to create rage and division for the sake of profit is the first and most obvious. Most recognize this is happening even though they still let it happen to them. The other thing that has changed is that both sides used to have some unifying principled beliefs and now very few people do...

I've got a crazy thought experiment for you. What happens if the full extents of the files were released when they were legally required to be and the Clinton's were implicated in them? Does that not solve the exact same problem you're describing now?

I think of it this way. About half the people I deal with lean right. The other half lean left. About 5% of the people I deal with are extreme one way or the other. Meaning most people just want to work it out and get shit done. The culture war is manufactured by the institutions we should all be united in fighting.

I don't know so much who, but they really should be dependent on only jobs and inflation. Not a litany of other factors. And the criteria should be set in advance that there's no ambiguity of what they are going to do. The country is not going to go in a hand basket in 3 months, so let's not include what might happen, let's make the decisions on what did happen. IE: we don't know what tariffs are going to do. Well, then adjust after you know what tariffs did, not what you think they may or may not do...

I guess my answer to that would be a question, why do we need to manage monetary policy? In my view we should allow the market to set rates and the currency should be pegged to a hard asset, no more fiat currency and debasement of the dollar allowed. If we assume that some level of management is necessary though then I fully agree with you, it should be managed independently and without influence from the government.

Are you asking who/what independent body I think should manage monetary policy? Personally I think independent central banks seen around the world (Reserve Bank of Australia, Bank of England, etc.) are generally the best structure. What about you?

Out of curiosity, if the Fed Reserve was abolished, would you want monetary policy to be managed by an independent body still or by government? I firmly of the belief that it needs to be managed independently. But curious to hear other opinions.

We can have a separate debate about the existence of the Federal Reserve (I’m firmly in the camp that it should be abolished btw), but coming after Powell criminally because he won’t bow to the pressures of the executive branch is an extremely dangerous precedent that we should all be very concerned about. How would you like Biden (or whoever the hell was actually running the country at the time) deciding the direction of monetary policy? In my opinion Powell has actually done a pretty damned good job through Covid and beyond given the dual mandate he’s been tasked with...

This is one area where we fully agree, the dangers and real world impacts of identity politics. And to the folks that think people are just anti-Trump, this is a problem that affects the vast majority of us today. Some folks blame media, though I blame us for being terrible at consuming media, but media is significantly involved either way.

Suzuki proves that bike development / getting everything figured out completely is way more important than having the latest and greatest design features. How many times do we see a new design introduced and watch the team struggle for the first half of the season? I’m not surprised.
