dcfitz Started a new thread Bell Moto 3 Helmets

I have a vintage YZ125 that I restored and needed a new helmet. I saw the Bell Moto 3’s and knew I had to have one. It looks retro, like I want, and it is very comfortable! Well worth it!

dcfitz Started a new thread HPI Ignition Systems

8/20/2020 7:21am
I just installed a HPI ignition system on my 1981 YZ125H and it runs like a bat out of hell!!! I had used my original electrical system following a restoration project and it melted down on the first ride. Following a Ricky Stator install and a 2nd used CDI install, with mixed results, I found and ordered a HPI system...

I’ve been giving this some thought. I was thinking, if you applied a sticker on some color matched tyvek material (color matched to your plastic gas tank), then cut out the tyvek to match the shape of the sticker, then sprayed the tyvek with 3M spray glue, then applied the sticker/tyvek lamination to your tank, the problem of bubbling may...

Only real solution I’ve found is following a two rules. Quality vented decal, and draining all the gas from the tank when done for the day. My 78’ YZ400 build was completed in May 2018, and the decal has not had an issue yet. Back in 1977 and 78 my YZ factory decals were usually gone in the first 30 days.

Thanks for the thorough reply. I drilled out the sides of the air box back in 1981, so that’s a done deal. I rebuilt this carb with new stock jets and set the float level, as well. The day I was riding was cooler than it has been, so maybe it’s running lean in the mid range. I’ll play around...

Haven’t messed with it since the post, but from the reading I’ve done, I think starting with the air mixture screw would be good. I hope to get it out, soon, so I can ride it to get I warmed up and then do the adjustments.

Personally, I’d replace wheel bearings, clutch plates, fork seals and shims, swing arm pivot bearings, steering head bearings, all engine seals and what bearings in the cases, or crank that don’t meet spec. Also, check your cylinder and if still in tolerance, ball hone and install a new piston, rings and connecting rod bearing, etc. I did my 81 YZ125...

My rebuilt 81 YZ125 is sluggish and seems to miss and bog on the pilot jet. Full throttle it flies! So, do I start with the air mixture screw?

So, my son and I rebuilt my 1981 YZ125. I’ve road it 5, or 6 times with no issues. My son comes to visit and rides it for his second time, ever, and ends up walking the bike back. He said he hit some big bumps and also ended up with a front flat. It wouldn’t go back into 1st...
