Apologies for not updating. It’s been a busy month thus far. I’ve got the engine pretty much done, just waiting on dowels for the cylinder. However, I was able to get the bottom end into the chassis and get the rear suspension/swingarm completely buttoned up. also some nice stuff from SPD out of England showed up That’s as far as...

Crank and transmission installed/buttoned up. When I find more time in the next couple weeks, I’ll finish the primary/clutch side as well as the top end.

Not a whole lot to update as I’ve been waiting on parts that are pretty critical to the next steps of building this thing. SPD factory developments (formerly Phil Denton Engineering) has shipped my swingarm pivot bolt so once I get that I can actually stuff the motor in. in the mean time, I finished coating the cases after getting...

I agree, it would be interesting to see if the flapper and or cavity have been modified. The 2 front tapped holes for the head's studs, enter the flapper valve cavity and are not sealed, OEM nuts are domed to stop leakage.

Making some slow progress, but progress nonetheless..! -I decided I wasn't crazy about the state of the wheels that came with the bike. They are Excels laced to original hubs; the yellow Excel writing has been completely rubbed off over the years. Overall they weren't in terrible condition, but I decided I will build a new set from scratch (new original Honda hubs, Excel rims and spokes, BRAKING rotors). Sold this set of wheels on marketplace whole. -Time for vapour blasting of the engine. Lathe'd up some caps to block all openings, and threw it into my boss's newly setup...

Thanks, yes I do plan on getting another JD Ignition setup directly from Italy (or whichever North American importer they use). From what I can tell on their website the ignition box for this bike still exists. They are pricey but necessary. That being said, I was advised from a friend/engine builder that the more modifications an engine like this has, the more there is a need for an aftermarket CDI to handle the advance in the timing curve. The inverse is also true, an aftermarket ignition system on a stock engine can be futile. I will ride the bike...

So not a lot of progress in the past week or so because I was waiting on a sonic cleaner to make sure the cases are 100% clean before paint/assembly. Also ordered the wrong FMF silencer decal so I ended up cutting it to make it work. Looks better than I thought it would. here’s some sonic cleaned parts ready...
Those air boxes look fantastic!

What's the secret to a nicely finished airbox? Easy, buy a new one. But for these bikes the airboxes are coveted. So much so that I now see aftermarket offerings to basically build one from I assume 3D printed parts or carbon fiber. If you have followed much of or any of my work you know I'm not afraid of labor. These airboxes were no exception to a exercise in patience. Its almost funny how much time I put into them. These shots below are after sealing off the entry passage into the carb from within and super pressure washing...

The radiators are actually very pliable. Do not use heat at all. This radiator was the worse one out of the 10 I dealt with. The key is to try and isolate movement. I found anchoring one side to a piece of wood while I worked the other side helped make it easier. I used a piece of thin steel about 3/8” thick maybe 1” wide by 12” or so worked well for me. I would start with a wood block but narrow. The steel helped me make movement in isolated areas. Anchor on one side to start and move...

Alright so I started to mess with the seat yesterday, it’s original Honda foam and an original seat base. Unfortunately the last person to put a seat cover on was pretty happy with the stapler. And one of the mounting brackets has loose rivets. So I will be drilling those out and putting new washers/rivets on the brackets. The foam...
Thanks for the words my friend. I have done a few of these. Prior radiator fins were done with two small screwdrivers. Basically using both to flatten the bent aluminum. I agree the HVAC or car fin combs are more trouble than they are worth. You still only can straighten one at a time. It’s not like you can drag the comb through. I am using one of those small screwdrivers that come in the plastic case of like 5-6. The one with the rotating/spinning part at the handle end. I cut that off and fitted it into a file...

1. Thanks for sharing. Love it when steelie’s are saved! 2. What’s the story with the rear hub: Are you converting that newer style unit onto your 96’? Be careful with axle size and 220mm rear brake rotor availability if so, as I believe they’re different…Just lookin’ out and curious about it - Cheers
