And people love to whine about the price of 4 strokes. Gear prices are ridiculous with this sport. When you work hard for your money it’s hard to let 600$ go towards boots alone. Anyone have a used pair of size 12-13’s?

Interesting article, I mountain bike/ebike more than I moto anymore just because of track and land access, but I'm amazed at how much grip the short little knobbies on my bicycles have. Then I look at my moto tires next to them and think good god they look excessive, is the addition of the weight, power, etc, that makes it a necessity? Perhaps it would help trails not get shut down and closed to moto's if knobbies were shorter. I'm with Broc, I'll bet they could make a tire with very similar traction over time. Why not extend the night show an hour instead to allow more time to fix the track? I know the T.V. people would not like this, but hey are golf and football not just as long? Just my 2 cents but i can't imagine riding a 450 with less traction through a tricky rhythm section. I mean even an extra 30 minutes to groom just the jump faces would be good enough, whoops are supposed to be hard.

I think Supercross is big enough now to go to nothing but enclosed Football stadiums. I love rain or shine outdoors at the nationals, but maybe not so much at a Supercross race. People pay to see these riders jump obstacles, not ride on plywood through a 3 foot rut. Supercross is dangerous already, The drying agents needs to at least be left out for now. I think in the future maybe just go to stadiums that are bigger, with a roof. Soon there will be a new stadium in L.A. and Vegas for the finally. What is it 16...

Did anybody notice both Kawasaki's where smoking? maybe boil over, but Eli's bike was doing it in the heat race, then Savatgy's bike looks like it blew up from the way it stopped.

Couldn't agree more. Seems there should be some sort of rule limiting modifications to the bikes especially in the amateur ranks. Suspension tuning not replacement, Exhaust and maybe some ignition mods. Would level the field and save everyone money. Not to mention it would push the manufacturers to keep the bikes competitive from the factory which is already happening thanks to KTM. A great example of a super modded bike is Amsoils Honda CRF150R. That bike is modded to the moon and back. Nice Article Cooksey...

I am so glad that this subject is being brought to light. I am one of those it has a son that races and he races his heart out on a bike that can't compete with a factory bike. We trained four to five days a week and he has the capability to ride at a competitive level but even so to see a bike just blow by him like he was sitting still down the straightaway is so unfair. Even when we try to get support or have an engine built the bike still can't compete against the factory...

Maybe all Loretta Lynn classes should be limited to bolt on modifications only. That way there would not be a unfair advantage to the riders receiving factory support since that's the event all of big sponsors are gathered at looking to sign their next rider. Unfortunately there are alot of really fast kids out there with a ton of talent but may not come from a wealthy family that can afford to dump thousands of dollars into a modified engine or be able to afford the amount of money it takes to travel across the country and all of the...

Excellent points to contemplate, but certainly not "new." Adversity for a youngster builds character---or destroys confidence. There is little "middle ground." Case in point: Colt Nichols NEVER received much support, yet he is on track to be a contender for years to come. His story is compelling and he seems very humbled by his success. Compare that to some of the "can't miss" kids who came through the ranks with him and were given everything...several are already out of the sport and others will soon follow. As for "mind-blowing bikes"----well, there will always be kids from wealthy families whose results...

I grew up racing against Rusty Holland, Mike Metzger, Casey johnson, and Brian Deegan on Mini's in the early 90's.
