Nice find, I'm a bit late to the party here, apologies. The '01 is a unicorn indeed, probably even more so since this post was originally started. Hope you still have it and wonder what's happened to it after these last few months? Still got my '01 I bought it new, can't be many around now. Mine's still a zero...

Thanks Scott. The KX500 is a bit of an enigma. Everyone likes to talk about them but no-one on line has actually ridden one. I wouldn't let it go for under 25k, just saying. I've got over 200 riding hours on the KX500. The value of the bike I guess, will be determined by the market. . CR500 ? Got...

Selling my '04, decided a few days ago. 51 hours only from new ( motominder) with a full factory spares kit in a sealed container. I need to move on. Have all the books, receipts and even the sales tag that hung off the bars when I saw it in the shop back then. The tank -shroud graphics are still...

I'm interested too that none of the 500 sellers mention thay still have the original books. That can be important to a collecter , just my thinking. 25k is probably a good start for any good condition water cooled red 500. Not selling mine at this stage but, I've kept all the books for my zero hour '01.

Thanks for the post, haven't been on here for a while. Got an '01 in the shed zero hours in preserving oil since new. Storage mode and all the books. Had plenty of fun on the green 500's over the years, they get along Ok too.
Myz74 Wondering, did your bike come with a full spares kit? I've had two KX500's , 1997 and the '04 like yours, both purchased new . Each bike came with a full spares kit in a box. Piston, rings, O-rings ,levers, silencer packing, jets, full gasket set, conrod bearings you name it. And a race book to record your lap...
Nice find. You don't redline a KX500 in any gear btw. Short shifting is the key. Had 'em new since '97. Just noticed who the post was from. Take it easy. 'No-one can say they know all about dirt bikes till they've been through the gears on a KX500' Quote, Dirt Bike magazine. Well done, Enjoy your Christmas.
Interesting thread. Don't know much about the CR500R but I bought a new one back in '01, last one in the shop. Still sitting in my shed, never clicked into gear. Spent some time on the KX500 though, must be close to 250 hours in the saddle now. Still got my '04. They get along ok, short shifting the KX5...

Interesting and that's not a bad price . Thanks for that. They're not getting any cheaper. No mention of any owners manuals or paper work though. That always makes the difference, if you're a perfectionist. My '01 CR500R has never been clicked into gear. All the books kept as new and bubbled wrapped from new. including the sales documents, promotion...

Nice work. Nice bike .The KX500's have sent me to the emergency section at the Hospital more than once or twice. Better to live with the broken bones than not to have experienced the most fun off road bike to ride ever manufactured. 230 hours later, I'm still alive. Still got my 500's but. Roadbike these days. Hayabusa. I'm on...

The new bikes were always started in the Factory before they were shipped, you're right. They were badged as '04 models but production obviously was in the previous year. Semantics. The motor will never be ' guaranteed seized' as Linehauler stated and, I'm not sure what he means by that. Give me a break. I bought one of the last...

Guess it's not what the bike has done in a pedigree sense , I hear you. I can only guess that the KX500 and the other discontinued open class 2t's are revered for what they represented before the rules and regulations killed them. They won't depreciate in value, I'm sure of that. Bit like a recently discontinued model Land Rover...

This the bike that started the thread . Zero hour KX500 , a guy I've known for years has it now and, we're both on the same page. He sent me this pic from his place. Nice bike.
