This is a 1987 CR500. I am the original owner. Last year I stripped it down to the frame, powdercoated it, had the motor rebuilt by a factory race mechanic with all OEM parts, stripped the black paint off the motor and semi-polished it, replaced every bearing and seal. All plastic and seat are original. It has a PC pipe, stock silencer. I'd let it go for $10K. People can tell me my price is crazy, I really don't care, I've had it for 33 years and it can hang around here longer! Just thought I'd share a pic of it.

Your right, 10k is too steep for that bike- best of luck though- thx for reading out.

Absolutely beautiful!! My Pops had an '87 CR500 as well. He sold it to the Uncle of a friend that I grew up racing with. It's still stashed away in his garage, buried away and he claims he'll dig it out for me once he's done with his home remodel, which has been going on for several years now. I'm sure it's in rough shape, as my Pops put a lot of track and desert miles on it, but it'd be a neat project. Someday....

Just wondering as I look at this beautiful piece of history...
If 10k is too steep, what is real market value ?
I’m not trying to start a debate just curious since the CR 500 is a very desirable bike and I’m not “ in the know “ for this particular market.

Call me crazy, but I don't think it is toooooo steep. Talking rough numbers here-- The bike by itself in rough shape will still run you $3,000-ish. To break the bike down and have that work, (w/NOS, OEM) done to it plus the powder coat/paint vapor hone, plastics, seat cover,whatever...add another 3-4grand to it. You're looking at at least totaling $7,000 now.
How much do you asking for that labor charge and the pure historical value of that bike?.. IDK.. Not toooo unreasonable to me I guess.. Just my thoughts...

Seems reasonable to me as well, for someone looking for a particularly clean bike like this one.

Well, for starters- you'll notice the last year of 2001 command a pretty heavy price tag, that's 14 years newer than yours- that's a lot. I'm sure what you value your bike at- but if you told me you bought it back in 87 and rode it for 20 to 30 hours, then thew it in the garage and walked away for 30 years, different story.

My add said, "LOW" hour CR500.

Hey there - I just threw up a picture of my bike in response to this ad, partially just to show off the restoration. Didn't mean to start a debate about prices, I really don't care either way. Good luck with your search!

Not saying your bike is not a deadly resto- love seeing those 1st gen CR500's brought back to life.

Motosport refused 18K for a crated 97 CR 500.
Original, low hour, you’ll be lucky to find one for less than half that.

Nice work. Nice bike .The KX500's have sent me to the emergency section at the Hospital more than once or twice.

Better to live with the broken bones than not to have experienced the most fun off road bike to ride ever manufactured.

230 hours later, I'm still alive. Still got my 500's but. Roadbike these days. Hayabusa. I'm on my third now. They get along OK.

Interesting and that's not a bad price . Thanks for that. They're not getting any cheaper. No mention of any owners manuals or paper work though. That always makes the difference, if you're a perfectionist.

My '01 CR500R has never been clicked into gear. All the books kept as new and bubbled wrapped from new. including the sales documents, promotion brochure and, the 'Honda' ballpoint pen that I signed it off to buy the bike.

Ken Kaplan has some nice bikes for sure. He doesn't have a CR500 quite as new as mine though. Take it easy,

Which means he's gonna say he went through the whole bike even though it like new and ask 25k for it. He bought the one in ohio for 10k
