Just bought a 79 Honda CR250. Are there any tips or tricks to kicking over a bike with the starter on the Left side?

Stand on the left side of the bike and use your right leg to kick. Other than that, I got nothing.... Wink

Do not ever "Slap Kick" any motorcycle that has a left side kick!

You will do more damage then you can believe! If you do that to a Maico or a Husky, KTM/Penton's you're an idiot & will pay for your stupidity big time.

Get a milk or a stand & get up on it, find TDC & push the kick starter just past TDC, let the kick starter back & then kick it thought hard & quick!

Not real good for the Honda CR 480's either as it screws up the engagement paws in the kick starter ratchet . nothing like have the kick starter slip & driving your boot into the foot peg hard enough to bruise it!

Never had any trouble with the 480's and I was only 16. I used to sit on the bike, get the kick start at TDC and kinda jump so I was using my whole body weight to turn it over and importantly not bending my leg much.

You can give the bike to me. That will solve your starting problems.

Do as BigMaico says...Never slap kick...You will pay eventually if that kicker is allowed to continually snap back. It's a acquired skill to properly kick start any biike, right or left side kick. You will get better at it...I have a horrible problem starting right side kick bikes as I grew up with left side kickers....And I'm 6' 6" tall.
