does anybody know where you can purchase Airoh helmets in the US? or do they not distribute here? have been trying to locate a Airoh GP Iannone Replica for street use. this probably falls under new rider questions or race shop, but I figure this will get a faster answer.

I don't think they have a distributor in the US, or at least I haven't seen one. But I have tried out their moto helmet and I can say they are extremely light weight, even if I felt it squeezed my face like my grandma wanting to give me a big kiss. Felt like I was walking around puckering my lips at everyone.

There is no distributor in the United States. Its a shame. As a long time Arai guy who wouldn't wear anything else, first time I tried an Airoh I was sold. I've bought two of them from the UK. I'd recommend the place I've dealt with for their extremely fast shipping (ordered one on a Monday, it was on my doorstep on Friday!) and great prices, but they don't handle street stuff.

Something to consider... I am no expert on helmet laws, especially since they vary from state to state. However, since these are not something thats offered here, keep in mind they will not have a DOT sticker, which is what some jerk cops that really wanna start shit will look for. However, DOT stickers are available on ebay. ha

www.dirtbikebitz.com sells Airoh dirt helmets and will ship to the USA. Might try emailing them to see if they could get you a street lid.

Doesn't matter what passes what. There will not be a DOT sticker on that particular helmet. No sticker, not legal. No more, no less.

When I ordered from there, I had my helmet in 4 days. I would have no problem ordering from them again.

I'm pretty sure Shark only had European standards on it and the shop I worked out sold those no problem.

Thats what I was thinking.

Dirtbikebitz is also where I ordered from. They are quicker than most places within the US, for me.

The only time this will ever actually be an issue is if some smartass young cop wants to squeeze the shit out of you.

The cruiser/Harley guys are more likely to be challenged, but it doesn't change the fact that the helmet is sold without a mandatory federal certification. Penalties and severity will vary from place to place.

Pretty sure Euro standards are higher than the US ones... I doubt those helmets would have a hard time passing DOT or Snell standard tests.

Reminds me a bit of when Marco Luchinelli was wearing "nava" helmets. Cool as hell looking and pretty light, they were plastic. Nava I don't think ever caught on in the states. That Airoh looks good.

$480 for their lower model, $600 for the top of the line. $700 if you want the Red Bull paint job.

You can see how we get ripped off here in Canada. For reference, a new Shoei VFX-W is $750.

actually it is not that obvious and maybe one of the reasons Airoh isn't sold yet in the US. You cannot take an ECE shell and bring it to the US market, your shell would not pass DOT (the mandatory certification for US) unless you modify it for DOT test-purposes (adding layers of material in the shell to pass.

I'll post it back up, he is my favorite Moto2 racer by far...reminds me of Rossi and Simoncelli. not sure about MotoGP next year, could be a strong possibility with the new 1000cc format and with the new manufactures looking to join the GP ranks. I hear Norton is making a strong push (with super fast Scott Redding) and BMW is looking at a Suter based 1000 with their s1000rr engine.

Snell and ECE are completely separate certifications from DOT. ECE helmets can and will pass the DOT test in most cases, as will Snell helmets. However, the DOT test is looking for a different set of safety capabilities than Snell or ECE. Thus, it is possible to have a completely safe and functional helmet that is utterly illegal for use in the US. Like Raceguy said, no sticker = not legal, period.

Imagine James Stewart riding a streetbike without a motorcycle license. Is he a capable, safe rider? Absolutely. Is it legal for him to ride? No.
