Some Americans can't believe they can compete with 450s still and Alessi's holeshot was just to much to take for the disbelieving 350 brigade lol....

it was probably the ama calling for it because of bikes doing half decent going against the grain of the rules that were made by the big 4.

Yeah Mikes Alessi's charge from 1st to 10th was amazing, I really thought he was going to get run over in the first few laps.

It's not a bad idea to make sure they really are what they claim.

He sure slowed down Dungey's momentum there for a minute....

They were picked at random. Saw it on MXA site.

ALESSI'S HOLEHOT: Red Bull KTM’s Mike Alessi grabbed the holeshot at the start of the main on his KTM 350SXF. Mike's starts seem to be back on track and with a series of holeshots to his credit in the last couple weeks, Alessi's bike was torn down after the race (it was selected at random). After careful evaluation, the AMA concluded that Alessi's bike was legal.

"at random"

yeah right, lol. I haven't heard of them tearing down anyone else's bike "at random" this year.

Just wondering how many production rule based factory YZ400F's were torn down back around '98? They were supposed to be 400's weren't they?

Yea was blazing fast in the whoops, taking them 2 at a time like a champ. He and "swagger" must be riding together

I got nothing bad to say about Mike. He's out there...plugging away...even though it's obvious he hates the stadiums. If his performance outdoors is the same then maybe it's time to move him down a tier in "moto royalty". As far as all that "insider" team crap, I haven't a clue. I just hope he rides to his potential this summer.

Why would the AMA care if they weren't 350's ? As long as they aren't more than 450 cc's they are legal for the 450 class. If KTM bored it out to a 400 but still called it a 350 (which they did not do), does that have anything to do with the AMA ?

Alessi was using perfect block pass technique... that is, if the race were run in reverse.

Bikes are torn down every race, you just don't hear about it.

If they didn't do you think EVERY team wouldn't be cheating out their asses?

Because AMA rules for Production based racing (which this is) state that the race engine must have an identical stroke and bore to the homologated (in this case the 350F) bike, in addition to many other rules.

Because it has to be stock cylinder dimensions. They can be bored out, but the cylinder being bored has to be stock. In the case of the 350 that probably doesn't leave much room for boring it out so much. Also, it HAS to use the stock bike's stroke.

Again, bikes are chosen at random to maintain the rules.
