My dog and best friend got out of the yard late last night. We really strong winds and the side gate is a barn door style with a board running between them to lock it. The wind blew so hard it broke the board in half.. Turns out it was was dry rotted.. I have been looking non stop for her since 1 am.. Must have put a few hundred miles on my truck driving up and down the neighborhood with no luck. I got a call about an hour ago from someone who found her. It broke my heart when the lady said "Are you pipers owner?.. i'm sorry to say i found her remains. Looks like coyotes got her" I went and picked up her remains and just buried her on the side of my house. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to see what i saw when i picked her remains up. It was horrible.. I don't have any kids so she was like my daughter.. She was the best dog i have ever had..Always happy to see me.. Loved playing tug o' war..I really hope she didn't feel any pain. I am absolutely devistated...R.I.P. Piper i will never forget you my sweet girl.. Sad

Awwwww man. I'm so sorry to hear about your poor baby. She was beautiful and looks like she was such a sweetie. I'm trying not to cry as I think about this, and .... well.. not doin' so well. My heart goes out to you for your irreplaceable loss. God bless. Sad

Sorry to hear that, I have a huge soft spot in my heart for beagles, so I feel your pain.

Thanks to all of you for the kind words about my loss. I'm having a really hard time with this. My buddy just called and said he's coming to get me to go ride. It will get my mind off of this for a few hours at least. Once again thanks to my moto brothers and sister for the comments it really helps.

Oh man that’s a tough one Greg, really sorry to hear about Piper.

Be careful riding, your concentration might not all be there. The best thing you can do is go to the local shelter and get another pup on your way home.

Piper wouldn’t want you to be sad for long….

Man that hurts, especially the way she died.
I had a similar pain when my cat got into the gerbil cage and killed my favorite black one.

I've never met a beagle I didn't like, and I'm sure Piper was a great dog.


I see coyotes in my neighborhood all the time, and cats and small dogs go missing on a regular basis.

If you take Gary's advice and get another dog, get a larger breed.

Cowardly-assed coyotes won't pick on someone their own size.

Got a coyote living close by and am worried about our minature beagle chasing a rabbit into the woods and meeting the same fate as your buddy.

Sorry and hopefully a new mans best friend comes along soon for ya.

I am taking a few of your guys advise and i'm going to get another dog. I have an appointment with a Beagle rescue on sat.. There are two there that i'm interested in. Hopefully everything works out and i can give one a new lease on life.

That's terrible. I lost my 5 pound Chihuahua to a hawk that swooped down and plucked her up from my back yard a few years ago. Such a helpless feeling. Almost lost my kitten to one as well, but she bolted just in time. Natures a bitch sometimes.

I feel for you man. I've had a couple of close friends and family pass away in my life, but nothing hit me harder than having to have our old dog put to sleep a few years back.

We have a new one who I love to bits, but already dread time when we have to go through all that again. Its devastating.
