Thank you for sharing, I've never gotton the full story. I always thought it snapped when he landed, it was my first time seeing the crash too.

Thanks

I remember seeing that and being shocked that he got up. They also showed him a minute later walking off the track and he was obviously stunned - just looked like he didn't even know where he was.

He's lucky, that's exactly how I shattered my wrist. Been out 22 months from it!!! The RM250 didn't snap in half though haha

He came off a lot better than DeCoster did when his clamps broke.

I was right in front of the take off for that triple and remember it well. Dang, I remember how hard those 125s had to work to get over that triple. Seemed at least one rider would case it every lap.

That's got to be every racers worst nightmare type of crash. I know it's mine. Can't believe Ping walked away from that.

Cool to hear his take. Think I'll pick up that 101 vid, it sounds worthy. Thanks for posting.

Huh, I always thought he made his front wheel over.
They should do a story about langstons rear wheel exploading. kind of unexplainable though I guess.

Was the triple clamp and wheel in question made by KTM ?

Pingree had a solid career and came within a nose hair of winning a SX championship, but this is what he's remembered for.
He must feel like the dude that crashed on the ski jump in Wide World of Sports back in the day. He was probably a great skier, but he'll be remembered for that nasty wipeout.

The wheel was excel. Who knows what the hell happened. I thought I remember hearing his mechanic say the wheel might have became brittle from sitting somewhere or something. Idk.
All I know is Langston lost an outdoor title in 2001 to Mike Brown because of it at Highpoint. Brown was hauling that year though. Atleast at Washougal.

It was Steel City where Grant's wheel exploded. I remember watching those final laps.

I was the pit reporter for ESPN or SPEED or whoever at that race and I remember seeing them wheel his bike off and thinking, Oh man, I hope that guy is okay, I still hope he becomes an editor for Racer X one day.... It's crashes like that (and seeing others crash like that) that made up my mind that I should maybe go to college instead of Carlsbad.

The whole Motocross 101 deal that Ping and Donnie Bales put together is pretty cool.

I don't know why I always get highpoint and steel city mixed up. I always used to think steel city was high point for some reason.
Same state.
