now are these motors that yamaha used in the yz 175 the same basic motor that got used in the rt 180 and blaster?
No. Cases are different, Blaster engine was based off of the old WR / DT 200 watercooled engine. The RT uses a more or less slightly updated late '70s DT 175 engine. Totally different than the YZ-C/X engines.

How about a 1975 Honda 175 4 stroke in a CR125 frame. Our local Honda mech used a SL100 lower end with spacer plate to mount a CB350 cylinder/head/cam cut in half. Got lots of stares and laughs until I passed the local cherry picker on his CamAm for the lead. The chain was a problom so he made a frame with a jack shaft to reduce excess slop, still looking for a picture of that as it was a pretty trick bike.

BTW, if I remember right, the cylinder off a PE175 would go right onto the lower end of an RM125, I think crank was even the same.

So you could have an RM175
Are you sure about that?
Im almost positive the stroke was different as well as the base gasket
I know the 100 and 125 shared the same cases but the PE was different I thought

your race bikes is as clean as your stock show bike. Its weird to me that the 175s went away when 200cc 2 stroke motors are such a versitle size

This thread makes me proud of my 1976 Yamaha YZ 125 Cased, 75 MX 175-B. Cylindered, 1980 YZ 100 Framed and Suspended monster.

I can't wait to finish my project and be able to post photos here for all to view.

A buddy of mine had an Elsinore MR175. An enduro bike, but pretty nice bike from what I recall. Made one year only.

3 years. 75 had a green tank. 76 red tank white fenders. 77 red tank red fenders (I think) . I had a 76 MR. In 77 the IT came out and I just had to have one

You're right, my memory isn't what it once was. It was the MR250 that was only produced one year in 76. The ITs were popular machines back then.
