So now that it's done, I'm curious when sexton camp first communicated to the team that he wasn't coming back? In hindsight, I don't know how much I believe that kawasaki would have had jcoop ride the bike and then signed Malcolm if they really thought chase was coming back. So if they knew months ago they needed to fill that spot, and did, why wait so long to release chase? It's either they really wanted him back and were hoping maybe there would be chance he'd ride the new bike and change his mind, or they just wanted to limit his chances of landing in a better spot and going on to success like prado. I'm guessing it's the latter.

My guess would be that they had started having that conversation shortly after he tore his ACL when the bike cut out.

I don't think this is some off-the-wall tinfoil hat theory.  I think there is solid evidence he is unhappy at Kawasaki, and enough industry insiders have discussed him talking to other teams.  Where there is smoke, there is often times fire.  He has publicly stated he's the most uncomfortable he's ever been in his career on the current bike.  Fahie has made statements that would seem to confirm to outsiders there's some tension there.  I feel 99% sure that Chase (and his advisors/agents/lawyers) are scrutinizing the contract, talking to other teams, and seeing if they can get the correct pieces to line up to change teams.  There's always the chance things don't line up and he stays at Kawi, but I'm thinking he wants to leave.

Some similarities to Prado's debacle last year, there was smoke.  It was easy to say "he has a 3 year contract, no news here", but the smoke signals turned out to be true.

What brand or team can you see him happy on?

I’d think he’s been long gone. They signed Malcom and everyone still believed Chase might be going back.

Perhaps they held out on releasing him to keep him from getting started on his next deal to reduce  the chances of him pulling a Prado and making the Kawasaki team look bad . But on the flipside, it could backfire if he is able to gel with whatever bike he gets on next.

I think his best shot at doing well next year would be to ride a Honda and build a bike based off the data Honda had from his last season there. It seems like that was the bike he was happiest on.  Yah  he was unhappy a year before he left. But by the time he left, he was really gelling with the bike and doing better ( in my opinion) than he has since.

If not for the new 2027 bike, I would say go to Quadlock Honda  , and lease some factory HRC stuff. With the 27 bike, that throws a little wrench into things. But I think that a factory Honda would be the best fit for

If Chase is as bad at testing as a lot of people say he is, he needs to be on a team that can work around that. The Lawrences seem to be amazing test riders along with everybody involved  at Honda. They have been pretty quick at figuring out new bikes and dialing them in compared to Hondas past.

Kenny and Chase get along well, so if the pay things that people have pointed out as issues can be ironed out that would be an insane team. Suzuki  going from hardly having anybody on them, to having a 4 man 450 team with 3 of those riders having won 450 titles. A sweep of a podium would not be impossible if things worked out right. I think this may  be another team that he could do well on. Kenny seems to also be a great test rider, knows the RMZ well and they have a lot of data from him testing. So that could help them setup a bike for Chase. Not that the 2 would share a common setup, but they would know what parts do what and what could help them setup the bike to fit chase based off the feedback from Kenny.  I would love to see that happen.

I don't see Chase going to Star with Deegan there and Davies likely moving up soon. I don't know how well Deegan and Chase get along or if they get along , but Chase didn't like how the Lawrences were stealing some of the spotlight at Honda, I doubt that he would be excited to deal with the extra cameras and craziness that Deegan brings along.   KTM having a pretty full team, but perhaps having some budget after Tomac retired could be more likely than I would have expected.

I really think that Some sort of  Pipes Suzuki deal is Chases best shot at success next year. With all the new models being added to the mix , Chase not being a great tester and also being really picky. Whatever happens, I'm glad we all have something to talk about that is not some AI BS videos posted by Deegan or similar crap.

Kinda a wild scenario.

Chase goes to zook. Falls in love with the bike and team best riding and season of his life.

Very next year zook releases all new bike sharing 0 carry over from current gen.

Start from scratch.

Lololol murphys law.

Anything but a ktm with a dodgy shock or a kawi with a team reluctant to cater to their rider.

The Chase mystery landing spot is an interesting discussion during the off season.   Would be great if Chase and Kenny were on Yellow.

Plenty of us foresee the Deegan ego not permitting Chase to be on ‘his’ team.

What if ‘Team Lawrence’ are doing the same with big red?

The pair of them carry a lot of weight, more than Deegan.

It seems that in 2023 Chase told Honda- “If Jett comes, I’m gone” and Honda chose Jett

It is possible Jett is now playing the same card.

I don't think that Chase would want to be a part of that environment either, but maybe he wants to build his youtube channel up and that would sure drive some drama and views. It could make for some interesting content, but I don't know that it would be the best thing for Chase. They have shown they are willing to do a lot to get a rider comfortable on a bike though. So take Deegan out of it and I think Chase could do well on Star.

I don't think that Chase would want to be back on the factory Honda team with Jett and Hunter as teammates either so it could be mutual.  Some sort of  deal similar to what Chad Reed and Kevin Windham did in the past with factory Honda bikes on a non factory team would be the way I see Chase on a Honda.

Team Tedder on a Factory Husky could be another good fit. He would get to keep Monster and have bikes similar to what he could have on the Red Bull KTM team.

Not in 2027.  Rumors about 2028 .

I hope Chase is able to find a team he can work with and build on. At this point he needs to accept some of the blame for the bikes not working for him and work towards making the bike do what he wants instead of trying to switch teams after a few bad races.

I am a fan of good close racing, and a happy healthy Chase sexton can run with just about everybody. So I hope he's able to get whatever's holding him back figured out and move forward.

Chase is the one who dipped and didn't want to be on the team with the Hunter brothers. He might have a different view these days, but initially it was his call not the team/Lawrence's as the report was HRC would make room and run 3 big bikes if needed.

Anyone else listen to Vital’s podcast about Sexton leaving? Man I thought Lewis’ bias for Sexton was showing big time, and it seems ML kind of thought so too.No doubt Kawasaki carries most of the blame but Chase isn’t blameless in this whole deal. He left his last two teams under similar circumstances, of course he didn’t get out of those contracts early but he left on such bad terms that he’s now meeting with his old teams to mend fences. Chase seems like a great guy but he’s (or maybe his dad?) proven to be difficult to work with on a professional level. He also opted to sign with the team after riding the bike and seeing the fiasco with Kawasaki and Prado.

What are the odds Mookie breaking contract/retiring from professional moto after the 2027 season trying to get to grips with the KX…?

Even Marchbanks maybe choose not renewing after 2027 (if offered a place there).

They are there for the benjamins, they will stay.

Chase was there to win, but felt like he couldn't and he already has money..

Mookie for sure, Garreth? He gave up on eventual wins already?

Not not happy, just average… is it enough?

Sexton has a history of doing stuff like this , and Prado had spent most of his life on a steal framed Austrian bike. I don't think the bike is a bad bike, I think that it was more the riders and the way the team chose to deal with trying to accommodate them.

I would be surprised if Mookie wanted to get out early , and Marchbanks has been doing great on that bike and team , it would shock me if he wanted to leave the team without it being an offer for a clearly better ride.  Yes there have been a lot of things said about the team  not doing stuff the riders wanted. But they have to see that even with the reasons I listed about Sexton and Prado that there needs to be changes in management or policy if they want to pull out of this downward spiral they have been heading.

I'm hoping that they are able to get James on a KX327 as a part of the deal.  Just think of the videos they could bless us all with of James scrubbing a 2 stroke Kawasaki.  Even seeing Mookie on one would be pretty sick. I wonder if James could still throw down a single lap faster than his brother? I'm sure Mookie has him covered for moto's and anything too long. But I dream of seeing a Stewart brothers  KX327 lap battle. 1 lap at the Stewart compound.  Or Budd's Creek, or Southwick, Red Bud , really any track would work.

Does anyone expect Marchbanks to be better than he has been? I'd say he's hitting his ceiling now. Which is awesome because an occasional podium outdoors and battling for 5-7th the rest of the time is pretty damn good.

This is my thought, nobody expects Marchbanks to win a championship. He should be stoked to be on factory equipment battling in the top 10. For most everyone that is awesome! Now if you’re the top echelon (Chase,Prado) maybe Kawi sucks. 🤷🏻 I couldn’t tell ya cause I’m neither Marchbanks, nor Chase or Prado. 😆

I was just throwing out thoughts… thinking Malcolm, if he is not feeling safe on the bike, will he continue..?

Good replies though!

What brand or team can you see him happy on?

Anything but a ktm with a dodgy shock or a kawi with a team reluctant to cater to their rider.

Or any team where he has to share the number 1 spot? Remember thats why he left Honda... that is basically all the other factory teams. And just the type of guy Chase is, I think he would have an issue being on any team not factory (other than maybe Suzuki cause they dont really have one). Hence my comment about not really seeing him happy anywhere. I think his best option is Suzuki alongside Kenny. Obviously just my opinion.

My opinion on the whole Chase situation is that fans, media, etc all have him as/was/gonna be a #1 guy. He also believes he already is a number 1 guy. I think he is actually a 3rd or 4th place guy with the odd win when everyone is on the line so you see him pull the odd championship/ legend ride when there is someone missing (this isnt a knock, he earned those). But when he cant beat Jett et al on the weekend he overrides cause he and everyone around him thinks he should be beating them already. This drives him insane, as it would any competitive athlete and he has got in his own head. He needs to lower the pressure and learn to get a bit faster/more consistent instead of assuming he is already there. I dunno, just a theory. I do think Kawi has issues and those issues became VERY apparent with Jorge and chase just due to the types of riders they are. I said when it was announced Sexton to kawi that this would be a disaster. They go together like milk and whiskey. I dont think its 100% chases fault, and I dont think its 100% kawasaki fault. Both need to be better.

I think he knows the writing was on the wall with Honda…. They didn’t need to run 3 bikes and weren’t letting the bros go anywhere. I can’t speak on what sort of guy Chase is I don’t know him personally. But I think you’re wrong, respectfully. A healthy & comfortable chase can run with anyone other than maybe Jett - pre heel injury.
