I had totally forgotten, but my wife got me one of these little manual fluid transfer pumps for Christmas last year. I'm going to try it and see how much luck I have with it. I fully expect it to not work and be messy, but at least I can get an idea. In the worst-case scenario, I'll just get under the car and do an old-fashioned drain. If I like it, I'll look at getting a better-operating unit. I'll report back here, but it won't be too soon - I still have thousands of miles left on the oil in the engine.

I used that to put the 4 gallons of oil in the motorhome and it took forever.

Well yeah, 4 gallons! Hahaha. I'm expecting 7 liters to take forever.

Let us know how your Amazon purchase works out.

I just got my wifes 1995 virago xv750 running after its been sitting for years and while sitting I suspect the carb let fuel flow down into the cylinder and slowly drained past ring gap into the crank case so I wanted to change the oil before selling it and as a test will use this to suck the old oil out.

Gas cap …. Thats another story. 😳

Okay, it turns out I have used an oil extractor like this exact one, but I used it to remove fuel from my Seadoo many moons ago.

I don't think I would trust it for removing all the oil out of a car though.

As an old aircraft mechanic I would take that shield down one more time, install an elbow in the drain plug hole and attach a length of hose to an accessible area and install a shut off valve.  Never take the shield down again and also inspect the dregs in the pan.🙃

So what do you do to get to the oil filter? Cut another hole? My wife's Maverick has a shield with at least 15 screws holding it in place. I'm only under there twice a year.

I just took my Maverick to local Ford dealer where I bought for Quicklane service oil changes. Was able to keep using Ford points and they send discount coupons all the time. My time is worth more than the $ I paid for that.

I feel almost the same way....almost. The thing is, Mercedes charges a ridiculous amount for an oil change. Guess how they drain the oil? Yep, oil extraction. 😎

unless it is a warranty requirement to use dealer only, I would assume you could get any reputable foreign car service center to handle oil changes?

Yes, that's true. I'm not sure I know of any reputable shop, though. I do all my own work on almost everything.

I used to do all my own work when I was putting high mileage on my cars commuting and had a suitable place to work on them. Now I barely put 3k per year on each and follow the once-a-year schedule. Just different life stages and priorities.

I Used the 12v pump and the suction hose ID is pretty small and output is large so it took a couple minutes to suck out the XV750 Viragos oil but it worked ok.
