So, thinking about some things. I tried looking at cc rules, and it won't let me open them. Anyone have the exact rules for cc's on that class? Could he have ridden a 250 in that class? Even though in power, we know he'd be at a disadvantage, we also know he struggled. If not, could he have done better on the KTM 350? Just curious on thoughts. I personally, think he would have placed better on a 250 against 450s.
They could have swapped him and Webb and Julian could have raced the 250 in MX Open.
MXGP is 290cc to 450cc 4 strokes
OPEN is 250cc to 450cc
I'm surprised they don't allow at least 300cc two-strokes in open. They are capped at 250cc.
Dang, that's something to think about in the future, if some rider has 0 hours on a 450. He could have gotten atleast a couple places better, I think. I think arm pump had a major roll in his placing. He said they detuned it. 3rd or 4th maybe for the team? Especially if Kitchen wouldn't have been taken out 1st moto.
Hindsight is 20/20 and he had a weeks notice, so I'm sure the fastest and easiest thing to do was out him on the bike they have settings/data for.

But if he does Open he also has to race back to back moto. Idk if he does a lot better on a 250. Moto 1 he was 10th. There were only 2 250s ahead of him, Farres and Mclellan.
He also had to start from the outside both motos to give Kitchen and Webb the better gate pick
Julien knows that a 450 is in his future, so best to get on with it now at a race that won’t mean that much, as far as his reputation goes.
Yes, but I'm saying, for the future. They definitely had settings for his 250. So, next time, swap the main 450 guy into that class, and let the 250 rider ride a 250. Heck, over bore it. Lol.
Personally I agree, I think he would have finished better. His starts couldn’t have gotten much worse if we’re honest. He would have been much more comfortable that’s for sure, I’m positive he had to pace himself more because of lack of comfort and familiarity in the 450
2nd moto is where we lost 4th place. If I'm correct, and it was arm pump mainly. He could have gotten atleast 1 place higher. That's all we needed from what it sounds like. I think he would have been fine back to back on a bike he's used too.
Would have liked to have seen Kitchen on a 450, Beaumer on a 250.
Me too, Kitchen spends a lot of time training on a 450. But I'm sure Kitchen's bike was already on it's way to France by the time Beaumer was selected.
What? The team gets to pick who they give the better gate pick to. With both him and Kitchen on 250s, it would've come down to who's feeling more confident coming through the field but that's totally up to the team.
Sorry Crusty, I just realized I misread your post. It won't let me downvote or edit my post anymore so just ignore what I said.
I would have liked to see him on a factory built 350. Purely speculation on my part, but it should offer a closer feel to what he is accustomed to and be close enough in power to a 450. Look where the top 250 guys are finishing, power isn’t everything.
Yeah maybe. But that's assuming he also gets 10th in moto 1 on a 250 after starting on gate 27
That's about as difficult a track for a first 450 race as I can imagine. His first moto was great.
Open used to have a very high displacement limit, 550cc I think.
That's a great point; if the roles were reversed the combined scores of Kitchen and Beaumer would likely have been better. Forato takeout notwithstanding. But as you said logistically hard. And was looking forward to Kitchen hot of SMX win really have a good 250 ride. He's had so much bad luck I was really hoping he'd have a standout ride. Wasn't really worried about Webb at all, knew he'd be solid.
Pit Row
Yeah missed opportunity to give beamer a better chance.
He needed to be on a 350. It would have been better to swap a 350 into his frame adjust the dual injection, mapping and suspension accordingly. It would have given him more power but it would have been way more inline with his 250 style of riding.
The kid is one of the 50 best racers in the world. I think he was fine with a 450
I guess I'll answer that, with, go watch his videos of him. He clearly states, he had a hard time with the 450. Sure, he'll be fine with plenty of practice. But 1 hour of riding it, was clearly not enough in his opinion. And the fact that they had to detune it, means too much.
It all started with 125, 250 and 500. When four strokes came along that morphed into 250, 450, and ‘Open’, which was a choice of 450 or the old MX3 class (up to 650? four strokes). When the MX3 class died, it became one 250 guy plus two riders on 450s.
I said from the moment he was announced that the best thing they could do was put a stock 350 motor in a factory race bike and let him go race.
It would just feel like a bad boy fast 250 without most of the negatives you get with a 450. He would have been wildly more comfortable on it in my opinion. And he was pretty fast, passing lots of guys in both motos until “he” ran out of gas.
