I'm not trying to rain on the RV parade. Did you see what happened at Daytona? That was an outdoor style track and Stewart was clearly dominating the track. He looked amazing.

Yeah James crashed at Daytona lol but for those first 3 or 4 laps he was smoking the field. IMO I don't think RV will be as dominant as everyone thinks if Stewart is out there. People just forget how fast the guy is because he hasn't raced outdoors for a while.
but he cant (IMHO) maintain that amazing speed for all of the laps, unless he is lucky...seriously that speed was insane but a lot of the time was made by that one jump, shaved 1-2 secs of other's lap times...very risky jump which paid off at the time, if he could not of done that jump would he have been faster than everything else? I think not by a heck of a lot....dont get me wrong I have huge respect for JS's speed but it is right on the VERY edge of being out of control...I perosnally think he would win more if he just toned it down a fraction....

RV was definitely the man when he raced 250f's, though Townley was with him in 07 the entire way but for one bad finish. And he just killed it at the MXdN

Stewart won every moto but one, when the bike failed, the 2004 season, the first 11 rounds racing a 125 against 250f's.

He won every moto the remainder of the season in 2003 when he returned from the 5th round on.

He won 18 of 24 motos in 2002.

All time class wins

1 James Stewart Jr. 5/12/02 9/12/04 28
2 Ricky Carmichael 3/2/97 9/2/01 26
3 Mark Barnett 4/23/78 8/14/83 25
4 Steve Lamson 6/14/92 5/21/00 21
5 Ryan Villopoto 5/28/06 8/24/08 20

Recognizing that Stewart's accomplishment in the class exceeds RV's is no discredit to RV.

The good old rhetorical question form is what you meant to say. Your condescending, "Are you serious?" pretty much set the tone for the rhetorical nature of your question. But like you said, 9 or 10 when it is 8 is only off by 1!
mx836... Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Vazscep knows exactly how are all posts are to be interpreted, and your "Are you Serious?" question fits into that gift of his. If he says it you said it with a condescending attitude, then by God, that's how you must have said it. He's the only one who can play the condescending card, he's the new sheriff in town... Now, he'll most likely just shrink up as others are saying that 'yes, RV was pretty dominating in the 2008 motocross season', with 16 moto wins in a row, the championship wrapped up by round 10, and only 60 points away from Stewart's perfect season of 600, and a pretty bow on top of it, with utterly dominating the world at the MXdN at Budds Creek, to complete his very successful year. Vazscep maybe saw the MXdN on the internet days after the race, at best, as he probably doesn't really even bother to attend races (too many common folk).

I would guess he's a blue blood motocross fan, who most likely never raced competitively or successfully competed in the sport, himself. He's welcome to prove that statement, incorrect.

He only has to run that pace for a little more then half the race, then back it down, once his lead is established. It's that 'sprint' mentality that the guys have going on over here. RC may have been the only guy to be able to run it at 95-100% the entire moto.

Stewart has more wins and a higher winning percentage than RV, but RV has 1 more mx title and 3 MXdN wins more than JS in the lites class. (JS never had the chance to race MXdN in the lites).

In 2007, RV won 14 motos and BT won 8. RV had 1 dnf (bike broke at Dilla) and BT had none.

In case you forgot, also with the longer races I think that plays more into Dungey's favor than Villopoto, Dungey showed last year he doesn't slow down at all, and often runs laps just as fast if not faster than Villopoto so don't be giving out titles just yet.

also, how many 450 national wins does RV2 have? seems like you gotta be in it to win it...so far, Villopoto is nothing more than the fastest man outdoor without any titles...uh oh...
He did, however, holeshot and walk away from the world's best 450's on a 250 twice in one day...........

good point, I hope we get to see it in the next race, but then again all that is going on makes for a much more exciting season though....

who really cares? the fact of the matter is RC was racing (mostly) against different people to JS&RV...how can anyone possibly compare?? you cant....seriously you cant!!!! All were/are excellent racers, why cant everyone leave it at that instead of trying to decipher who is better?

Never said Bubba was better than RC outdoors, seems your statement is Implying that Villopoto wouldn't have gotten worked by Ricky too? Also, this weak field theory is funny because it's all the same guys Villopoto beat on a 450 when everyone gave him so much credit for dominating, and this was ONLY 1 overall win! Now he's going to dominate the outdoors, even with Stewart? Stewart won every outdoor race the season before, and really the only difference in riders (of top caliber) was Reed, which (in 09) when Mike Alessi was on Suzuki and healthy he had him handled outdoors, and we know how the Stewart/Alessi battles always ended in 2008. Villopoto is overrated in my opinion.
He sure didn't get worked by Ricky at Budds Creek in the MXON, he smoked Rickys ass on a 250F!

There may have been no MXoN in '02, but there was supposed to be before it fell through. I remember really wanting to see James smoke the world on his 125 and it seemed like he just didn't care to participate.

I was so bummed when Carmichael got hurt in 06 at Glen Helen 2 weeks before the MXdn. Team USA would have been Carmichael MX1, Villopoto MX2, Stewart MX3. IMO that would have been the BTOAT (best team of all time.)

There was a MXdN in 02, but it was held in Spain 2 months after the cancellation and USA didnt attend.

I agree, PD. I think it'll be close to that this year if it's a Stewart (MX1/3), RV (MX2), Dungey (MX3/1) team. Not so much after that, but still a rockin' team if one of those three aren't going, we'd drop off to the likes of Canard... Tomac.... Baggett... Barcia...

I'm planning on going to the MXdN in St. Jean this year, so I'd love to see Stewart representing the USA this time, since I didn't get to see him in Italy in '09.

I think it would have been RC, Ferry, and JS. Ferry got 2nd in the 450 class that year.

Wow man that should be a blast of a trip. I think though that the U.S. national champ in the 250f class is kind of an "automatic" type of team choice, isn't it? I could be wrong on that but I believe it has been that way for a while. If that were the case, and if Stewart rides the Nationals (all of them), then we could see a Stewart, Villopoto, Barcia (or Tomac, Baggett, etc. ) type of team. If Stewart doesn't ride them, who knows?

Sorry, didn't really mean to turn this into a "who is Team USA going to be this year" thread.

Reading comprehension goes a long ways when a person applies themselves diligently to understanding what other's are writing. Please take that to heart since what I wrote was that RV was not as dominate as James Stewart was in the lites class. A look at the record books proves this point along with the fact that Stewart was, at one point, going against 250 four strokes on his 125 and still winning. Note that "not as dominate" implies that RV had some form of dominance as any person would be foolish to deny that RV had a stellar lites career. I know that subtle points often whiz past your head in an untainted fashion, but please make an effort to minimally understand the key concepts being discussed.

RV will beat Dungey outdoors by large margins. The only hope we have of seeing some competition this year at the Nationals is if JS races the series. I would almost bet that Dungey will never win another 450 title. He won't beat RV, JS, or CR now and in a couple years he will be dealing with a whole new crop of dominant riders. TC will likely own Dungey outdoors this year.

I never meant to sound like RV (or anyone) will ever compare to RC outdoors because they won't. I was saying he will win and win by large margins just like RC did if JS isn't present to give him some competition.

Don't know about JS but RV stated that he had to run his SX set up with 2 clicks softer on forks because of the SX obstacles at Daytona- so I \don't think we necessarily saw what would happen in MX. I hope that the RV of old shows up this year outdoors with his new found fitnes-

If you recognize or remember that RD, Daselle, Everts, Roncada, RC and Larry Ward have all given JS fits at some point outdoors why couldn't/wouldnt RV?

Shoot RD almost had a perfect season in his rookie year outdoors doesn't mean he's untouchable.
3/8/2011 10:11pm
Wouldn't the fastest "in control" man be one who hasn't crashed in a race yet this year? None of the top 5 qualify for that. Maybe Short, has he crashed yet?

For everyone who says "Villopoto will destroy everyone outdoors" over and over, what is his outdoor record on a 450 anyway? My memory isn't a steel trap, but it seems like he's participated in very few 450 outdoor races. Wasn't it just one race (which he did win)? Though I consider Ryan an excellent rider who very well could destroy them, people act like the series has already been run and Ryan is a proven 450 outdoor rider.

250 greatness doesn't equal 450 greatness, although it certainly helps in making a sturdy prediction.
