Go watch the Slayco96 video in the KX327 thread...listen to the commentary when they're talking about his impression...and RV's...and MC's...
Obviously ambassadors of the brand are going to have a positive impression. It could be a great bike, but most first year bikes have some quirks to work out.
Would you really want a 2 stroke for the Rip? Anytime I'm in Baja I always wish I got along with thumpers better.
With a 6 speed and good torque?!
ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY!
I've spent some time on the Husky Smokers with FI and "auto-oil-injection system"...they're damn nice off-road bikes.
In the Super-Gnarly Stuff...smokers are a blessing...think tight single-track...etc. Combine that with the ability to get pretty damn good mileage for a smoker...? WINNING!
But, for The Baja...what I'm really thinkin' the 327 is perfect for is stuff like The Beach Bash, the San Felipe 250 (can an old dude solo it on a smoker...?)...and stuff like that.
Besides, it's Green!

I will tell you this for nothing, which is probably what it's worth...if you're gonna ride sand you're gonna want a four stroke. The biggest you can handle. When I was young and nimble I didn't mind fighting to keep a 2T wrapped enough to surf.
When I bought my '88 XR600 It made carrying speed in the sand so much more enjoyable. Unless you plan on hard core moto...a big bore is the only option. Just my .02.
Seems to come and go depending on shit I'm not smart enough to understand...
Thanks, PB. Got my eye on a low hour YZ250FX. That bike is magic in GNCC type conditions. I’m 150 lbs in my birthday suit so the power-to-weight ratio works well. Only gripe is the e-start motor which sounds like it’s on its last legs every time you hit the button.
You guy's are killin' me with visions of Baja, etc... adventures.
Minutes from heading out, turning a 3.5hr hwy trip to the cabin into an 8hr+ journey via dirt roads across the mts, and perhaps a trail or two, depending on access to the Buzzard's roost, or Hurricane creek trails, (I-40 repairs being a thorn to trail access these days)
Hopefully get a chance to see Kenny and Hunter split moto wins one last time this year.
4 strokes have engine braking. Seems counterintuitive how that would help carry speed/momentum in sand.
Only if you let off ? 😄
It probably has more to do with set up than engine size or strokes, but every YZ CR 2 stroke I've ridden in sand seems to want to wash the front end at high speeds, and tuck the front end at low speeds. I'm sure being a goober doesn't help. For whatever reason my EXCF 500 (that's been lowered 2 inches) is the easiest to ride bike in the sand I've ridden to date. Going slow the front rides on top without doing anything weird, going fast I can stand up and pretty much just lean it over to turn. Could be the 500 has a fatty front tire, or the geometry / weight bias is different ?, I have no idea. *Granted my "slow" is almost stopped, and my "Fast" is most guys "slow".😒 I don't know why but the 500 feels like it wants to ride over the sand, while the 250 2t feels like it wants to go through the sand, if that makes any sense 🤷♂️🤪
Exactly. You never let off in the sand on any size bike, I've just found big bores easier to do it on.
Hey there was that lawyer that shared his phone with the guy in the Mirtly case. Maybe we can get him. 🤣
That’s what I’m talking about! The 8 hours will pass more quickly than 3.5 hours slabbing it. You got a 4.7 in that bad boy?
RD has a point. Plus I find a 2T more manageable via the clutch so you can keep the RPM high and sound like a superhero! Keep an eye on that fuel level, though.
The FX may be my all-time favorite. Ethos work great for me, and the suspension is fantastic. The aforementioned e-start and tendency to flame out w/o warning are a bit bothersome but the overall package is tremendous.
"You never let off in the sand on any size bike"💪
Indeed... for me the difference is, with 4T engine braking you don't really have to use the front brake, which can get dodgy in sand.
Also, you can create forward motion with torque instead of revving a 2T, so you don't have to be hyper-aggressive all the time.
BUT... lately I notice that the 4Ts are a handful in the sand, I suspect that's diminishing aggression level. "Needs more cowbell throttle"
Sucks to get old/ slow down 😡
Here in AZ I ride my Beta 480RR and KTM 300XC in sand and rocks (seems like) 90% of the time. Once in a while I take the XR 650R on single-track too, it does amazingly well but it's hard work.
The unlimited ST riding around my house has just about all terrain types except mud and good traction..... it's all bottomless sand washes, rocks, patches of fesh-fesh here and there, off-camber DG pebbles etc. I've spent my life riding in this kind of terrain, guess I just don't know any better. I've never lived anywhere wet and cold. (The year in Seattle doesn't count, I didn't have a bike then).
Miles and miles of deep sand separates the men from the boys... without a crowbar. Not many poofs ride Baja...or the wilder parts of AZ, same thing 🤣
How about a rebuttal ML512. TXDirt does have a valid point.
I'm still curious if it's just one or 2 people hitting the report button or actually 20-30 different individuals as was implied by "I get 20-30 emails a day". Because I can easily believe by certain poster's posts, they are very likely to do that. They poke and poke till they get a response they can "report", filling ML's in box.

Interstate 15 between SoCal & Vegas can become an absolute Shit Show…
I can leave the pavement out near Glen Helen and off-road damn near all the way. A lot of it is the old Barstow to Vegas route and some fun stuff at Fort Irwin/NTC (actual sand dunes)…and some we even make our way thru Dumont.
Raptors and Broncos are a lot of fun on that route 🤣

In 2000 I got my first "proper" bike. A new KTM 400EXC. My buddy who bought the 520 used to take it to Glamis. I asked him one day about what paddle he uses and he told me there's no need, it works great without. So my next trip out to the desert, half way up Blow Sand I stopped just to see if I could get going again to verify, sure as 💩 it just started tractoring away and right back up to speed it soft sand.

I’ve been clipped before. Not a big deal. Take the time out and come back. We’ve all been there at times. I’ve got no issue owning my mistakes or conduct
This was completely unjustified. Been over a year since I’ve engaged in any meaningful threads here.
Maybe apologizing is too difficult for him to do. Lot easier to justify your mistake or poor judgement than to own it.
I own mine.
I challenge Michael to own his.
Gibby hit me a couple of times the same way. I talked to him about it and he said that I knew the pool was full of turds when I dived in. He was %100 right. We can all see when a thread just ain't right.
"Gibby" had a phobia to people that have a personality
Yes. Awesome lump. Low range, at around 1,200 rpm, gets it climbing up some wicked trails, with little wheel spin.
Full time awd, push of a button for 4wd.
Awesome driving around in something that doesn't need a "road".
Were planning a Durango / Creede / Ouray area off road etc trip with the inlaws and grandkids next June. Got any secret spots Joey ?
Man I'm chomping at the bit to do 4x4 trip out west.
Animal issues, a diabetic cat and a pup needing physical therapy every week keeps me attached to the local vet for the foreseeable future.
I've only done two wheels out there.
Oh, and for as edgy as any political thread has gotten here, nothing compares to the shitposting festival over in moto.
Don't believe me ??
Go scan the "damn Webb" thread.
It's the epitome of infantile bullshit.
I live 50 miles frum Durango and have been to Ouray several times (also Silverton in between) but have not off-roaded extensively either. I've got friends that have and know there's plenty of legal trails and even companies that have organized guided day adventures in the off-road areas. There are some really informative online videos about Ouray especially. Would like to actually stay in the local RV park and use that as a homebase for adventuring 1 day. That park is featured in videos and is North of town on the way to Ridgeway
My Tacoma does okay but I mostly explore on my dirt bike. I need to make it further south one of these days, haven’t explored that area much
We'll have 2 Jeep Rubicons and my basically stock TRD, 33's, Fox shocks, and rock sliders. We're just starting to research, here's a few that look fun. We're not about climbing up cooler sized rocks as much as finding "Cool bitchin roads and places" lol. A 4 low lockers on section is ok, but we don't want to do miles of it.
