why didn't RV go ahead and lap Stewart

He was clearly catching him at the end and then looked to me like he backed it down the last lap. Was he doing it out of respect or just didn't want to piss Stewart off?

RC would have gone for the jugular just to make a point and demoralize his opponents.


And yes, laps 10 through 20 RV's times were faster that JS's were.

What would it prove. RV got his 25 points. That's whats matters. RV knows that he is not as fast as Stewart. But if Reed keeps riding like a dip shit when he is around Stewart and Stewart keeps throwing races away then RV will win the title.

i was on the fence. did rv have it to lap him? did he want to lap him? ok, he would of had it in him to lap him, but he was flowing at the present pace and in first, why risk it? well, he could of lapped him to make sure stewart had one less lap to better his position.

If he had lapped him Stewart would not have had another lap to pass riders and pick up points, so he should have as a tactical matter. I think it's a wash because I don't recall Stewart picking up any positions in the last lap.

Lapping James would have gained nothing but added risk. Smart move. I am amazed at some of the math and strategy that these guys do in their head while racing at blistering speeds.

If it was the GP's in the 70's/80's, he wouldn't have lapped him because for sure Stewart would have parked him. Ask Lackey about Malherbe sometime.

I think he should have lapped him. That would have ended the race for Stewart and any chances he had to make up more points. If this season comes down to one point that could have been it. I don't think it mattered in the end but I'm also not sure he knew that.

I asked RV that, and he said he was more focused on what was going on behind me a little, "I wasn't even worried about James. I was just worried about Chad and making sure (I knew) what he was gaining on me. If it was a lot, then go a little harder. If not, just maintain it and run the laps down."

RV2 couldn't catch him after he got back up. The only reason RV even got close was because james backed it down a little the last few laps. Everyone in the daytona stadium knows who was still the fastest rider last night. Crash or not...
