Probably going to roll with the mainstream publics answer on this one. We're stupid. ๐คช๐ Next question.... lol
I cant even explain it to my self. Its like that feeling you get before you drop in on one of those watersides that goes straight down, then a split second later it goes away and you're brain is processing more information then you thought was possible.
I'll 100% honest. First time I ever lined up for a race, it was a local one, that attracted way more of a crowd than was expected. Once I lined up for the practice lap and saw 400 people staring back at me, I was done. That was way too much stage fright for this old hillbilly.
All I got from the link is a login prompt. Guess I'll skip it.

Did the guy getting his head and neck run over live? It appeared to get twisted about 180 degrees.
Good thread G-Man. The Merle Haggard, song was perfect!๐
Those two strokes on the start line...holy nostalgia! Man I miss the 90's moto scene (I realize that clip wasn't from the 90's). Local races with full gates in all the classes, two strokes, no responsibilities...the good days.
No words can explain to someone who has never raced moto (and I'll include the 1 minute silence on the line of a dead engine start hare and hound before the bomb) what that feels like. Its impossible...
That video of the start of that two-stroke race got my adrenaline going...
...that feeling can not be replicated very easily... ...and freshly grading start chute, YEAH!
Borg, just close that login prompt screen (X) and unmute the video... ..and enjoy!
Man, I could smell that first video... 927 and burnt rubber.
Some people just don't understand the value of a plastic trophy?
Me too as I don't Facebook. But hit the little x in the upper right corner of the prompt screen. Then you can watch and smile. Your welcome brother

Just gotta hang yourself up in the start gate. Get it out of the way first thing. Nothing but up from there. Or no further down at least.
Very Cool!๐ฏ
With starts, I would always be super nervous and stressed as I drove into the track. It would start as I was on the road pulling in and I would finally calm down after I got on the gate.
It really is such an amazing feeling going through the first turn and getting a holeshot. Or going down in the first turn. I have not found anything that is really similar.
Just thinking about it gets me wanting to get out there again!

Mid-pack 2-stroke Madness! Damn those days were good! ๐ฒ
I had a big crash last Friday road racing, hobbled into my kids hockey practice the next day and the other parents all looked at me like i had a death wish.
Until you've felt it, hit that big send, grabbed that holeshot, made that dive down the inside, you'll never understand it.
Hard to say whether we're stupid, or if the feeling is worth it.
I can't count how many times I rode to the gate thinking I was going to let everyone go and play catch up because I wasn't feeling it. Only to wind up with a great start because all fear and rational thought went out the window when the starter headed toward the doghouse. I'm chill, I'm relaxed.... then 4 seconds before the gate drops my brain switched from scared to FUCK IT GO !!!! ๐ That's an impulse you can't explain to someone who hasn't done it.
Pit Row
I usually ride every Saturday, but not this past weekend. I did 4.5 hours of trail maintenance in the 95 degree heat instead. Getting the loop ready for next time.
There were 3 young guys out riding while I worked. At the end of the day I had to climb a big hill to get back to the road where my truck was parked. Right as I made it to the street one of the guys was right there huffing and puffing pushing his bike. He lives in the neighborhood close enough where he rides to the trail. Bike would not start. He had about a mile to go and that includes more hills and creeks. We loaded his bike in my truck and I gave him a ride home. He was grateful and I made a new riding buddy
Yah it makes no sense at all. But its amazing!
And makes all the other BS( injuries , costs ,etc.) that comes with riding worth it.
