The wife wanted to see an old friend of hers who lives in the area, so I tagged along and went to the Honda museum at Twin Ring Motegi while they hung out. It’s a lot more car/road/MotoGP-centric than I’d prefer, but still a bad ass place with some really unique history.
- #3 is a replica of the first Elsinore that won an All Japan Motocross national.
- #8 is Graham Noyce’s ‘79 championship bike.
#95 Rally bike won Dakar.
That place is amazing - even though I'm not much of a car person, I still found even those aspects of it great to see.
I'd like to get back there one day. Well, Japan in general.
Did you have a look at the EXP2 Dakar bike?
What could have been, far, Far earlier with 2ts, if Honda hadn't decided on ' All Four Strokes, All The Time '
They only made use of the Active Radical Tech on the carb'd CRM250AR. We got a few here in OZ, for a short time. Those with them, want far too much $$$$$$ for this Old Man to fork out for.
By the way, are you a 'Gaijin', living in Japan, or a 'Native', so to speak?

Both of the Elsinores were definitely highlights of the tour for me, but I am a bit jealous because I’ve seen photos of one of McGrath’s bikes and a couple of the 80s drop tank works RCs that I was really hoping to see in person. Knowing that my wife's friend lives here, though, I actually have a reason to come back again, so maybe I’ll have better luck next time.
Did they have any of the mid 80s or 90s motocrossers on display?

Those 2 bikes were the last Japanese bikes to win MotoGP championships. They also had a few Yamahas from the 60s to highlight the rivalry between tue brands over the years. Wish they would have had some early YZs, too, but no such luck.
@Last2Stroke, nope, those are the bikes I was really hoping to see today, though. Guess that just means I need to come back again…
I was lucky enough to go in 2018, the place is amazing.
I am not sure if I ever knew or I just forgot but I don’t recall if they rotate the material on display or not. There were some 90s era bikes there then.
They did have the NR bike and engine cutout, but those moto bikes are exactly what I was hoping to see.
Awesome post Sully and Tydog for his contribution. That place is amazing and if it weren't for threads like this, I'd never get to see any of those legendary bikes.

Kenny, I'm pretty sure somewhere in the back of your mind you were thinking "with some specs and the old shop I could build that." 🙂
They rotate, but not very often. Lots of machines hidden away in the warehouse. Sometimes they will display a bike or two at the Honda Welcome Plaza in Aoyama, Tokyo. You can even put in a request for a particular display, though not sure how is easy it is to make it happen.
