Never Forget

I picked up a nail in the rear tire of my motorcycle that day, insignificant compared to everything else but it was personally memorable for me. 

It's red white and blue day at elementary school today, I don't expect that they get too far into it with first graders but I'll ask my kids what they did today in regards to the historical significance. My daughter really loves this skirt and she looks cute as a button in it.

Yougest daughter teaches 3rd grade. She said school had a moment of silence.  She read her class a book about it, then had a discussion about it. Made sure she told the kids that planes are more safe because of what happened.  NEVER FORGET

Such a crazy and sad day it was and having the sky's empty for the next few days was kind of eerie.

What I find rather odd is the conspiracy theorists who do not believe a plane hit the pentagon or flight 93 pummeled into the ground and was oblivated. They were tracked on radar until the end just like the second plane....

If things are too big or too scary to comprehend people start to make up theories. You see it every time something majors happens in the world and in this day and age everyone with such a theory can get a following sadly enough.

Crazy to think it's been 25yrs already.

I was in my 6th grade classroom about 30-40mi away from the city as the crow flies. I remember my teacher Ms. Kochevar stepped outside of the classroom after another teacher signaled her to the door. She came back in a few minutes later with tears in her eyes. She turned on the TV in our classroom and we all sat quietly and watched what was happening.

They sent us home early, and we could see the smoke in the sky. At home, it continued playing on the TV and we sat there quietly numb trying to process if this was really happening.

At home, I could see my dad sitting there, broken inside but trying (poorly) to not show that. He couldn't process it himself (don't blame him one bit), let alone try and explain it to his three kids. It is very odd being a young kid and seeing the adults in your life completely broken down like that all at once. 

Kids in my school lost parents, aunts/uncles, etc. A lot of people commuted into the city for work.

A big part of my childhood ended that day.

Never forget. 

It sounds like you did a damn fine job raising a wonderful person. "Made sure she told the kids that planes are more safe because of what happened". This is huge - even in the most tragic of events, it is important to find some good.

It made planes safer, it brought our country together in a really beautiful way.

Our daughter volunteers in her daughters 1st grade class. She said the teacher talked about the significance of the day and why we remember it each year without going into to much detail, they celebrated "Hero's Day"  

 Apparently there was some controversary over the content of the teacher's original speech with one of the parents, so it got a fairly heavy edit job. I'm not sure what was in the original version vs what the kids heard. But I'm curious and will talk to my daughter this weekend and find out what that parent didn't want her child to hear.  Never forget doesn't work if the parents aren't on board...     

My son is in 5th grade ,the classes all colored flag so they could line the hall way in red white and blue ,he came home and told me about patriot day that they learned about in school.

One of the good things out of 9/11, when we as a nation woke up on 9/12 we were all Americans. We were not Republicans or Democrats, we were Americans and now 25 years later we are a divided Nation. So sad. 

I was off that day and at home when my wife called to tell me and to turn on the tv. I was thinking it was some rare accident until I saw the video and realized that it was intentional. I few days later when planes were allowed to fly again, I had a trip to Norfolk, stay overnight, and leave early morning to Newark. When we took off from Norfolk the next morning, I noticed what I thought was a line of low level fog. Except it kept going all the way to Newark and was coming from the World Trade Center. A few days later, I had a trip to LaGuardia and I can remember going up the Hudson River on arrival and looking down at the destruction of the World Trade Center. It was hard to process what I was seeing. 

The vast majority of "9-11 Truthers" are rabid Jew haters, and their narrative is "Israel did it". They work backwards from there,  connecting every dot with any kind of Jewish connection as "proof".  

I was in the airline industry at the time and know plenty stories, including my own, and that of a friend named Jack who had just departed DCA for Phoenix in a Boeing 757. Climbing westbound out of 11 000 feet an American Airlines 757 came past his left window, nose down at high speed, heading towards DC. Air traffic control warned him, "we're not talking to that aircraft, he's a primary target only". IE, no transpoonder, just the radar reflection which is not the way ATC radar works -- it's not intercept radar.

It was the 757 that crashed into the Pentagon.

Some weeks after it happened, I got to go down into the site in a NYFD vehicle with a NY Fire Commissioner who had flown to JFK on our flight,  I'll dig up the photos and post later. 

What baffles me, is numerous airline pilots who are "truthers' who believe it was all a CGI hoax because THE JEWS DID IT. 

Many of these fools claim that the aircraft were either doubles, or cruise missiles, and that the two 767s and two 757s secretly landed at a military base where everybody on them were killed.  Crazy lunacy..... 

And, as my brother reminded me this morning, my father died on 9-11-2016, ten years ago. 

Not a good date.
