I have had that same injury and I would guess hardware removal....

I thought he already had hardware removed and a clean up.

Looks like he got some metal out. He just posted a update on IG.

Urgent removal of hardware?

JFK that’s a lot of metal. Can’t understand how he endured it. Broadcast said something about scar tissue release and no damage. This looks way more serious. 

Or getting rid of it now in hopes of his ankle being closer to normal than it has been this year.

That one plate looks bend. But again people really don't know how severe this injury is.

I thought at first it was an ad for Racetech Titanium when I saw the hardware removed.🤣🤣🤣

Brutal. Screws will always bother you in my experience. Full prosthesis like a hip replacement is different. Screws kept me in constant pain but hip replacement was pain-free the first day.

Getting the hardware removed from my arm made a huge difference and was worth every penny.  I can't even imagine racing with that many foreign parts in my ankle.

I was developing avascular necrosis in my talus 20 years ago. Dr suggested I get the screws removed in the hope that it would promote some blood flow. Still hurts like a bugger but didn't die/collapse, which is where it was going. Can't wait to get that guy back on a SX track.
