If a CT were within my budget, id honestly consider one. Ive had nearly every motor in an f150 from 04 on. The 2.7 is the motor hands down in that flavor. I had a 15 5.0 Platinum with 3.73s and it was nice, but my 20 3.5 max tow with 6.5' was in a different league while towing. The 2.7 is just the perfect daily if you can live with a 5.5' bed. The tesla would be perfect for 90% of our usage but we only keep one nice vehicle which means it has to go on family vacation drives and i wouldn't wanna deal with having to charge on the road. 

all the industry reviews and mechanic consensus is the Coyote is the best motor by far for reliability. If you're talking about the twin turbo 2.7 I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. Mileage goes to shit with the turbos and reliability isn't great either. Maybe a thrill for the Raptor crowd but for an everyday civilized driver and workhorse I go Coyote every time.

We have a New Tacoma with a long bed, the bike fits perfectly in it. The truck is great in every way. There are lots of great options out there, it just depends on what you like in a truck and what is important to you. 

Might want to look in to the 2.7 again. Im a lifelong ford guy and 10 years ago you couldn't convince me a twin turbo 6 banger would be what its become. 5.0s don't come without trouble, specifically from 2018 on. Phasers are very common. The 2.7 is built similarly to the powerstroke if you look into it and it's becoming the 7.3 of the half tons.. It doesnt have the phaser issues the 5.0 and 3.5 do.. turbos failing is not very common on the 2.7 either. The gen 2 is the ticket. My mileage towing my 6000# toy hauler is no less than my 5.0 3.73 truck was and when daily driving it gets 3-4mpg better. Any 18+ ford with the 10 speed could fall victim of the cdf drum falure  in the transmission tho. Atleast until 22 when it was revised. Id never own an 18+ 5.0 with all the oil consumption issues. The 15-17 was very solid tho aside from mentioned cam phasers, water pump around 120k, and occasionally lead frame in the 6 speed. 

At least they didn't take the bailout money like some of the competitors. 

I have a 2.7 liter twin turbo F-150 with a 5.5 foot bed that fits my bike with the tailgate up.  It is a full sized truck with 4wd and a super cab and it gets over 20mpg if I’m not towing.  It pulls my 23 foot wake boat or my 25 foot toy hauler with no problems either.  Way more truck for the money than Toyota.  Sitting at 125,000 miles, and no issues.

The only thing I don’t like about FSD is you still have e to keep a hand on the wheel. They need to make it true hands free.

actually, the 2018 is a Unicorn year. We have ZERO TSBs or recalls, the rough downshifting tranny does not affect our VIN run. No phaser issues. Ford changed oil change fill guidance on the oil consumption issue (I always added about 1/2 quart every 2k miles). We just hit 28k on it and 2nd set of tires. Meticulous scheduled & preventative maintenance and we have an extended warranty for peace of mind. All good there. 👍 Might check your recommended replacement schedules on the twin turbos too- I had a Maverick Turbo and it called for replacement around 50k miles and there was decarbonizing the intake valves intervals in there too.

Not knocking V-6 in selected circumstances. My 2013 Grand Cherokee has the Pentastar V-6 Flex Fuel motor with VVT has been super reliable. 5k towing capacity. A little down on power with only 270 HP and mileage takes a hit with only 5 spd trans and full-time 4WD (with 5 selectable terrain modes). I bought it new, just turned 78k miles, has everything I need and none I don't want and I'll never sell it.

Also, the 2024 Frontier with the N/A 310 HP V-6 kicks ass, decent MPG and 7k tow rating. Super Cab, 6' bed and more options than I ever wanted but the value is 10 of 10. ZERO TSBs or recall issues with a few months left on 3/36 warranty. It slots in nicely replacing the Maverick 😁 Entire fleet is paid for and cheap to insure...

the logic and desirability of hands-free driving escapes me. If you want to relax and fuck off while traveling by car- just get an Uber or have a reliable driver on hand. 🤷‍♂️

Don’t overthink it. I had a first gen Tacoma double cab with the 5 foot something bed that we used to haul two full size bikes, while towing a 16 foot trailer. I remounted the hitch a few inches farther back and used a slightly longer ball carrier to make room for the trailer. It got a lot of questions at the gas station, but it worked out great. 

If I didn’t haul the trailer and bikes at the same time, the little truck would have been easy. 

Once you have it it’s awesome. You can drive so much longer without getting so exhausted. You also don’t just mess around while it drives, you still have to stay alert or it warns you. Also Uber isn’t hauling your dirtbike for you every weekend in the middle of nowhere lol.

because of the tech (especially SW) in these hands-free driving vehicles, you are literally taking your life into your own hands each time you use it. There were just 2 fatal Tesla crashes last week and more recently all blamed on FSD. You've probably heard about the Waymo crashes and total shutdowns in traffic? Tip of the iceberg. Just because there's new tech all the time doesn't mean it is across the board wonderful needing to be widely adopted for use in vehicles. Computers are fallible and can't be relied upon 100% of the time to act as envisioned/programmed by humans.

I’ll take my chances. Humans are too inconsistent and the data supports it. There are far far fewer accidents caused by autonomous cars than human controlled cars.
