Hey guys I need some help…. I'm doing a project in my university sports nutrition class on motocross athletes and I can't find any research on it. I have heard all the stats about how motocross is the second most athletic sport next to soccer etc. But I can't find the original studies. Does anyone know where I can find any information. I want to prove how demanding our sport really is. Thanks
What are you using to judge Reed's fitness? A picture of him with his shirt off?

What would Reed score on your tests? Obviously you don't even need to test him to determine his fitness level, so go ahead and tell us what he would score.

I am surprised by how sweaty and winded they are after a 12 minute SX finale or a 5 minute heat race.

Would a true world class athlete really be that spent, that quickly ?

compare that to Lance Armstrong......just because they share the same personal trainer, doesn't in fact, prove CR is in world class condition.

SOMETHING doesn't add up.

I think they are winded because it's a difficult task.....

I realize their heat rate goes to +185 bpm, but what is their VO2 max?

if your VO2 max is like 40, your heart rate will skyrocket with little effort.

does anybody here even know what their VO2 max is? my polar F11 says mine is 47.

Motocross is hard, soccer is hard, running is pretty hard, cycling isn't as hard. Baseball isn't hard, football is hard for about ten seconds then you take a break and have a meeting.

Ping pong is hard to do but so is the paddle with the ball that is on the string.

Anything else?

You ever fished the Lake of the Ozarks? Talk about whoop sections, that place is full of them.

If it was such an athletic sport you wouldn't see so many fat asses lined up on the gate at the local level.

Those "fatasses" are almost never at the front of the pack. They are mostly just riding around the track not really even competing.

Bullshit, there are plenty of overweight fast guys. look to my post above for three examples off the top of my narrow little head.

i think it all depends on how you ride
if you ride by just kind of sitting there on the bike letting it pull you around its probably not very demanding but if your working the bike hard and moving around the bike with alot of body english it is harder
also those fat guys are probably just lugging around on 450s

are we talking about how athletic the 40+ class is at some local track where they pound out the 5 lap motos on smooth tracks and still pump up, or how in shape the top professionals in the world are?

As far as I know Motocross is the world most demanding sport. Old school riders use to go for 2 (45) minute motos. I have played soccer, football, long distance running and mx is by far the most physically demanding.
