Found a couple of CR125's for sale. I am not sure which of the two is the better deal! There is a $500 difference in price but the more expensive of the two comes w/ powerband, both are in very good condishtion

Well you should be able to pick up a decent used powerband for around $500 so it's a wash really .

Don't get the one with the powerband, it was probably raced.

Powerbands are over rated.

I was hoping the craigslist guy meant a powernow.

Which if that is the case, test ride them both.

get the 500$ cheaper one, if they are in actually similar condition.

My instinct says the seller is not that stupid and is simply trying to entice the local rednecks into giving him a extra 500 for one of them. Picture this, a couple kids looking at them and say this one looks better, seller jumps on that and says yep thats the one with the powerband, its a real screamer, definately worth the extra money.Cool

Now I am really confused. I was all set to buy a 1981 Maico 490 because I heard it would drop eighteen seconds off my lap times but do I need to buy one with or without a powerband? Can I add a powerband to it later by porting the shit out of it once I get it or is it set from the factory?

2000 is still pricey for a good 125. Why not consider a KX, YZ, or RM. All these were faster than the CR. If you're going to go with a CR, MXA recommended the 2003 as the best alum framed CR.

I am getting a lot of good advice here, thanks. I was also considering one of the other 125's I have seen on craigslist leaning against the side of a trailer home. This one is a factory YZ that has been bored and ported all the way to a 250. I bet it needs 93 octane though so I am leaning toward the CR
