Unfortunately, it sounds like Vlaanderen won't be able to compete for South Africa this year because he started the year representing the Dutch flag and the FIM won't allow him to switch nationality.
As tough as that might be for Calvin I think the FIM have made the right decision if that's what it is. You shouldn't be able to pick & choose which country you represent.
I agree. If you’ve ridden for one country before, that’s your country. And none of this Puerto Rico with American riders nonsense. That’s stupid.
Dean Wilson & Dylan Walsh have done it too.
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts
$189.95 - $239.95
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Harri Kullas raced for Finland and Estonia. Zach Osborne and one of the Martin's for USA and Puerto Rico.
US team Deegan MXGP, JCoop MX3, hear me out - Tomac MX2.
1987 Hannah rode a RM125 and anchored the US team win. DV made this argument for Tomac to ride 250 at a previous MXdN at Red Bud.
Yeah, he hasn't been doing so hot lately, but I don't feel good about Kitchen and his starts. I'd rather roll the dice on Tomac than Kitchen. I'd take Barcia or Ryder D over Kitchen. I think Barcia would overperform at MXdN. He takes that seriously.
Deegan - JCoop - Beaumer is the best USA line up I can see at this time. Provided all are 100% healthy at that time.
But Spain, France, Belgium, and Netherlands are all going to be bad ass.
I'd think I'd rather see RJ in MX2.
I bet he'd do it, too.
Nope he's already stated he's out due to changing teams.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Bummer.. Will be interesting to see him on the Duc.
I guess Beaumer would be my next pick then... 🤷♂️
My guess for Team USA:
Tomac, Beaumer, Barcia.
450 Points Standings
3- Deegan (wants to be paid and there's apparently tension with the AMAs Mike Pelletier and he's the team manager)
5- Hampshire (Already ruled it out because he's switching teams)
7- Marchbanks (Kawasaki...)
8- Webb (Last outdoor season, riding SX for WSX, switching teams)
10- Smith 154 pts.
11- Barcia 151 pts. (Possibly switching teams)
Barcia will overtake Smith in the points and lately he's putting in better results.
250 Points Standings
1- Kitchen (Kawasaki...)
3- Beaumer
4- DiFrancesco
5- Hymas
8- Mumford
If Tomac gets up to speed it's easier for KTM to send two of their riders. Next available 450 guy would be Barcia.
JCoop is supposed to comeback for Unadilla, but he's been out longer than Tomac with a head injury. We'll see if he gets back up to speed. If he does, and not too much gets in the way or things get worked out with Star/Deegan/AMA, I could see Deegan and JCoop being selected for the MXGP and OPEN spots.
Terešák broke his vertebra and scapula last weekend.
So even long shot on top10 is gone. Now the battle to qualify right in is on.Do you put Mikula on 250 so he can score top8-10 in quali and hope that Kovář or Krč scores unexpected 18th to qualify... Or do you put Mikula on 350/450 in open class stick Janout or Rathouský on 250 and pick your poison in mx1 and pray.
Víťa Marek just got back on a bike after like 3rd pelvis surgery in as many years and scored holeshot in first moto of czech nationals then faded away - 1 week of practice after 10 months on recovery seems not to be enough 😆. I would say screw it and pick MX1 - Mikula on 350/450, MX2 - Janout on 250 and OPEN -Marek on 250-2T.
Ohh, I was there, watched second moto, he (Teresak) looks like goes for safe win. Did not know, he crashed so hard🙊
South Africa
40 Tristan Purdon (Kawasaki)
41 Camden McLellan (Triumph)
42 Slade Smith (Yamaha)
If homie shows up recovering to the MXdN on a 250-2T that’s my new favorite rider/team. Not a chance that happens. 😂
Vačlav is the european 2 stroke champ this yeat - definitevely gonna run his bike. I will tell him to do that and we will hve someone to go mental for besides our own nation ones
Yeah. I'm not team manager so that was only a rant. 😆 But i'm personally sick of safe "old" choices. Czech team got nothing to lose... and without the second best rider really nothing to gain. My fantasy team would make czechia send 20 yo, 19 yo and 18 yo to Erneé. Rathouský at 23 yo is still good but due to him being privateer and encountering couple injuries in his late teens he kinda plateaued. Krč and Kovář are okay-ish but since Petr Polák retired we do not have experienced rider with gatedrops among the best. Top 20 at Adac masters and couple mxgps are nice but not enough to make a dent.
Team Canada
MXGP: Dylan Wright
MX2: Dylan Rempel
OPEN: Sébastien Racine
Not our strongest team. Hopefully 2027 everyone stays healthy.
Pit Row
Honestly, our chances this year are almost zero. I say we send Mumford on a factory bike. Dude has shown grit and perseverance lately. Send Marchbanks for the same reason. Hell send Zacko. At least there would be 3 cool stories out of it.
So, who are gonna represent the Netherlands?
Best team in my opinion would be:
Herlings MXGP
De Wolf MX2
The Hoff or vd Moosdijk MXOPEN
Vlaanderen in open?
He has been off pace lately. And besides that, he wanted to ride for SA. In my books thats when i dont want you to ride for my country anymore, sorry.
I don't see how Aus has a shot at the top 3 without the Lawrence bros.
Spain, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands all have very strong teams that should 100% beat them, then you have teams like the USA, Slovenia, Latvia, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland where it's more of a toss up but you wouldn't be surprised to see them beat Aus.
Also even disregarding the exorbitant fee MA would have to pay Star Racing for Minear, I'd still consider Cannon over him, Cannon's strength is hard pack and he's also more familiar with the European style of tracks and the format.
Then your original post is probably the best, or leave De Wolf on his 450 and send Karssemakers on a 250, although I have been thinking what if they put Herlings on a 250?
He still rides his 450 like a 250 so I don't think he'd have trouble adapting and it would be really cool to see. It would've worked better when he was still on KTM though as they seem to have a more competitive 250 and HRC has already been having reliability problems with Herlings' 450
Karssemakers doesnt have the speed to ride a 250 in the MXGP. De Wolf does.
Anyone think team USA will be announced before the end of motocross season? Guessing it could be a really late announcement this year.
And is anyone in the know aware of any big changes planned for the track? Hope they at least keep the big triple step up. Such a great atmosphere at Ernee...
Looks like Webster won't be lining up for Australia
Herlings on a 250? He’s way too big for a 250 now.
Team Germany
MXGP: Max Spies
MX2: Valentin Kees
Open: Tom Koch
Spies and Koch may swap but this is how I think they’ll line up
Yeah, withNagl injured and Roczen & Laengenfelder not going i would call this B-team germany. Top10 would be a good result.
