Correct, DOT isn't much of a safety standard but every helmet sold in the US has to pass it. No way would I wear a DOT only helmet. I know with the previous ECE 22.05 it could pass ECE without passing the penetration test of DOT. With the new 22.06 I'm not sure if they can pass it with the thinner/less strong non-DOT shells as its a more stringent test than before. Many helmets gained weight with the 22.06 standard so I would bet they had to toughen up the shells which added the weight.
Actually, thats not entirely true. If the helmet is to be used on public lands, roads etc. then it must have DOT certification. If it is to be used on private property (stadiums, motocross tracks or other private lands) then they do not have to be certified DOT. There are a few helmet manufacturers that make a non DOT off road helmet for the US market and most if not all of your factory sponsored riders are wearing ECE only helmets in SX and MX here in the US.
Yes most of the factory guys are running the non DOT version if the company makes one because they are lighter. But I'm not aware of any being actually sold by a US retailer, these are all provided by sponsors. There are the 'novelty helmets' for harley guys which are non-DOT but I haven't seen any actual quality helmets sold in the US that don't pass DOT.
The Klim F3 for sure and I know there are some snowmobile helmets that cross over to moto that are also non DOT. As well, many will go online and just buy from Euro websites not realizing what they are actually buying. But, to your point a majority of the helmets sold in the US are DOT. I was just pointing out that the DOT rule doesn't always apply.

Find it really odd that Airoh was sponsoring some top level pros (Anderson, Vialle, Musquin) in a country they weren't even available in. Like what the hell is the point?

I'd ride without a helmet instead of one of these ugly ass things. That pointed mouth piece is hideous and reminds me of old armor from the middle ages. They NEED someone like James to influence a new design as he has amazing style and great taste.

Is James kids riding dirtbikes? When yes, for fun or results?
A-Star used to do that with their gear for a long time, some RedBull KTM guys and the Alessis always ran it, but it was never sold in the US at the time. I think A-Stars had a deal with Thor/Parts Unlimited where Thor wouldn’t make a high end boot and A-Stars wouldn’t sell their gear in the US, that way all the top guys in Thor always wore A-Star boots.

Eddie Cole brought on the Airoh brand to the US and was distributing them through Seven. Not sure what the current plan is, if the Seven rumors are true.
