There is constant conversation regarding Deegan narrowing the gap between him and Jett.
The reality is Jett with one leg has deegan 53 points down and Southwick has only just ended.
There is no debate. The gap is growing.
When did deegan become the media darling?

objectively speaking, like DC said post fight after Jon jones whooped him again in the rematch , it ain’t a rivalry if I lost to the guy twice , yes deegs is steadily improving & eventually will get there but until he starts beating Jett just as much as Jett beating him , it ain’t really a rivalry so yeaaa we can kill this 1 v 1 talk between them

Yeah, it's the narrative but then you watch the press conference and none of the "media" asks Hunter, Jett, or Deegan about the shit talking. Makes no sense.
It's pathetic, really.
In another thread, someone posted the press conference video of Hunter "defending" Deegan in the Smith/Deegan heat race nonsense, and the best part of that video was the doubling down by the DMXS guy asking the question.
It forced Deegan into answering a real question, and even prompted Hunter to jump in. It was great and it was what everyone wanted to know.
Someone needs to straight up ask Jett about Deegan, about the back and forth on the line, about the shirt. Yeah yeah, here come the "but if they ask that question they won't be given access anymore" guys.
That's the pathetic part. Maybe there isn't a solution because of the size of the sport, and that sucks too.

I asked Jett and Haiden both about their chirping at High Point and interactions. Jett made the cleaning out the tire comment, Haiden made the “I just asked the guy how he was doing and he flipped me off” comment.
I was standing right there when they were chirping on the starting line this weekend, overheard most of it. Just seemed redundant to ask about it again when it was honestly pretty mellow compared to High Point. If it escalates to a bigger level, I’ll ask again. I had other items to ask them each week and imo, more of the story in Haiden’s case, was keeping a tighter gap at Southwick, big changes, etc. Jett’s was the footpeg, which he didn’t want to discuss. So I asked about how his off the bike program has been effected, then I asked about Southwick vs Euro sand tracks/Coenens performance.
I don’t think the media is referring to the championship standings you pointed out. I believe they are talking about his overall talent level getting closer. How could a guy close a points gap if hasn’t been beating him?
The media is not talking about points, they are talking about how much closer to the top two Deegan is finishing. He has taken a gap of over 30 seconds down to 10 seconds at the end of the motos. When he gets the gap closer we will see if the Lawerances can up the pace more. Time will tell.
Also, to add, I personally felt the least amount of tension post-race between the two that I’ve felt almost all year. Haiden referenced the Lawrence’s each off the back of one of my questions, with no real reaction other than just talking about the race.

Correct. My question in the presser about the gap this weekend is physically where he is at on track in comparison to the Lawrences, and even being consistently ahead of Prado.
So now the gap is points. It used to be +30, then +20 +10 etc.
I mean objectively, Deegan is improving each week in a number of areas. Long way to go but qualifying is better, in race best lap times are improving. Lasting longer in the hunt, starts were MUCH better this weekend.
I do know this, I've seen Jett and Hunter on the ground these last few weekends more than Haiden. The pace is extremely high and he seems like the only one going after it.
We can all have our opinions of when of if he can, but he IS getting better already.
Someone needs to ask how he feels about wearing that shirt, now that we're over halfway through the season. Let's see how he deflects that one, or hell maybe he laughs and says it obviously wasn't a good look now. Who knows. Because as far as I've seen, he's never even been asked about that stupid shirt lol.
He's the only young American in the series with a realistic chance of becoming a Champ one day. It is normal that the US media is treating him as their darling. Same with US fans, they are willing to ignore his WWE antics on YouTube and interviews just because he will be the only US rider with a fighting chance they can support.
Because who else is coming up that can go toe to toe with the Lawrence Brothers, with Lucas Coenen, with Jorge Prado, with soon to be Cole Davies...
I'm not a Deegan fan, hater, or lover. Frankly, I've never been a fan of his antics and always thought he was all hat, no cattle. Turns out, I was wrong, the kid is a hellava dirtbike racer. That said, I'm also not a Jett fan, hater, or lover. I'm a fan of fantastic, competitive MX/SX racing. If someone can't see Deegan is improving and closing the gap between the Lawrences in terms of overall speed, then I don't know what they are watching. Yes, he still has a ways to go, but to say he isn't improving or isn't gaining on them as he learns and grows, is not accurate. He's the only one in the class remotely running their speed or getting close to it. The Lawrences are running at a crazy fast pace, and recently the mistakes indicate as such. It's fun to watch. I never imagined Deegan would ever get to this current level. I thought he was a product of his family's marketing machine. Turns out, he's legit a fast rider. He still has a way to go to catch the Lawrences and a rider like Coenen. But, if his progression continues, he will eventually catch them.

Agreed, 100%. And Cole Davies is going to be the one to watch. His progression is insane. I love the fact that he talks with his riding. He is going to continue to get better and better.
The media just thrives on controversy. Jett hasn’t changed. He’s usually 50+ seconds in front of everyone. Not sure why it’s some “grand achievement” now that Deegan is around. I guess he’s stirred the hornets nest.
To me it’s the same as high point. Moto one was 20+ back and moto 2 he finished close behind 1st because Jett always just manages the gap. Same thing for the wick. Idk why yall think he’s closing the gap. 3rd on start in moto 1 finished 20+ back
True, but again he wore a shirt that had RIP Jett on it. You can't do that, then pretend you're good with "learning from the veterans" a few weeks later when you haven't led a single lap.
He also had an interview at Thunder Valley saying Jett is scared of him. Remember that one?
Talking about the media, bro. You sound triggered. That’s how you know Deegan is in yours and Jett’s head. It’s working on the media too. I mean look at all the angry energy people are wasting just “hating” on him. It’s like he says, he feeds off that energy.

Im sure each month that Deegs matures, he probably regrets the shirt gate. He was just having a little fun.
Apparent to me is in recent interviews he acknowledges where he is at on the bike and the riders he is up against. A reality check.
Of course we like to see Americans on the podium but the older I become, I just appreciate talent, grit, passion and work ethic, regardless of where you are from.
I also appreciate well mannered kids who are respectful. A little spice here and there isnt a bad thing either.
My 21 y/o son sort of lipped off to me yesterday. ( I can still whoop his butt on the track or inside the ropes), but A little emotion is healthy.
Im just glad to see that riders from all around the world want to race in America. That says a lot. We are blessed to have what we have.
Deegs is good for the sport as are all the other riders.
We have something special with MX and SX and the fans, venues etc.
excited to see some changes the Martin boys made at Spring Creek next week.
Did you miss the part where I said Jett needs to be asked the questions too? Lol I'm not triggered by any of this. The battles on the track have been pretty good.
I can't stand Deegan off the track, you're right, but I hope he's up front more and longer soon, everyone wins when that happens.

The only things that have changed is Jett being injured, and Hunter is learning to ride at a faster pace.

He’s having an impact. Yes Jett is winning races, ho hum, but Deegan’s mindset is focused on winning and disrupting. It’s certainly working in the media and on forums. People are so blinded with rage and fury at him they can’t think straight. It’s amusing. And it creates a mental distraction.
I can admit maybe we (myself) are slightly blinded but it also goes both ways. He will be 20+ back in a moto at Millville also.
But he got third with a 3-2 on a sketchy sketchy track.
Jett puts 20+ on everyone, and he never rides at 100%, we all know that. He’s gifted his brother some motos, just like he gifted Kenny a moto some years back. I think Deegan hopes to push Jett just a little. Maybe make him push to like 80% just to “show” Deegan or “put him in his place”. Basically, to get a chink in the armor.
