Not sure how it works in Thailand,  but I'm quite certain that this guy would be hog food in my neighborhood.

For anybody not wanting to read the article here's a summary

He had a green card (which would imply he came to the US legally), the conviction  resulted in the loss of his green card and made him an " Illegal Immigrant".

He took full responsibility for what he did. He even said that the defence he used back in 2006 was BS  .

According to his pardon application, Vang ( 22 years old at the time) was sentenced to 144 months(12 years) and placed on probation for 30 years. Upon completing probation in 2019, the Ramsey County District Court determined Vang was β€œdischarged from probation” and was able to restore all civil rights and citizenship as if the conviction β€œhad not taken place,” according to the application.

During the June 10 hearing, Vang apologized for his actions, specifically noting he claimed what he did was normal in his culture. β€œThat was a lie, she was not at fault in any ways,” he said at his pardon hearing. β€œThere’s no culture that makes that I did acceptable.”

It was a committee that decided to give the pardon.  Minnesota Board of Pardons consists of the governor, attorney general and chief justice

All 3 of them voted to pardon.

The pardon only makes him eligible to get his green card back. And that is why DHS is claiming that it was done to block a deportation. The Governor has no part of the decision on the green card being reissued or not.

If only Epstein's buddies would be treated the same.  A pardon after the full prison sentence and probation has been served is different from never spending a day in jail or getting a big chunk of that sentence shaved off. At least this guy has paid some price for his crimes . And in the end the pardon may end up not really changing anything. He could still be denied his green card being reissued and end up being deported.

And an even shorter to the point summary.

After being convicted ( at the age of 22) serving his sentence of 12 years in prison and finishing probation in 2019 , He admitted to his crimes in the pardon hearing .The pardon made by a 3 person committee all voted to pardon him. Makes him eligible to have his green card reinstated.

But he could still be denied the reinstatement and be deported. It is up to a federal agency the governor has no connections to to reissue the green card or not.

How do the three that granted the pardon sleep at night.

I worked sex crimes for a little while.  The real deal is always worse than what you read.

How did he complete a 30 year probation if he served 12 years beginning in 2006?  Wouldn’t he only have spent 8 years on probation?  There’s some strange math in this story…..

Yah I was wondering how that works. I was wondering if it was a typo since the jail time was in months. Or if some sort of reduction happened.  It felt like the article was missing   info .

Yeah, I’m certainly not saying that it’s a completely bogus story by any stretch of the imagination, but when I see things like that which don’t make much sense, it makes me wonder if it’s a true piece of news or an op-ed about a piece of news.

I don't know,   I hope that they had all the details of what he did .  I was just trying to summarize the article with info that was not spin or opinions.  Not saying that I agreed with the pardon. I just felt like the details of it not being a single person deciding on the pardon was important info.

I am glad that the pardon is not cutting into any jail time  that he had to serve and that he still had to serve his sentence.

I do wonder about the math not working on  the probation and jail time though. I feel like if it had been reduced for some reason that a sentence saying so would be easy enough to add. It would make me question the  thoroughness and factuality of the reporting less.

@olds cool:  Do us a favor please.  If and when Trump pardons Ghislaine Maxwell, be sure to start a thread about that.  OK?

If I ran the zoo he'd get a one way ticket to Thailand, or Arlington Texas. His choice. I'm leaning towards Texas being a better solution. Hogs gotta eat too.

If that happens, nobody will defend it.  One topic most can agree on is that Trump screwed up by not releasing all of the Epstein files.  If he pardons her, it would be the end of the RINO's, which is what Trump has become.

Unfortunately there would be defenders.  Maybe not super vocal ones. But there would be people that justify  it to themselves so they can remain supporters. And there would for sure be people who will repeat whatever Trump comes up with to frame it as a good thing.

I saw a news story  that she was trying to get a pardon from Biden and said she would implicate Trump in return. And for whatever reason they did not take her up on he offer. Maybe they did not believe her, maybe they already had proof to support the claim? maybe they knew it was total BS ?  If pardoning her would lead to many other people that were involved at a similar level to her being put away for a longtime. Maybe then I could agree it was a somewhat good thing. But I don't care who she implicates or clears, keep her in jail unless the people she implicates can take her place.

Personally, I’m not in favor of Maxwell being pardoned, so if he does it I would gladly say I disagree with him on that.  I want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on the whole Epstein saga but sadly I think it’s so massive with so many high level global elites involved over such a long period of time with so much covered up, overlooked, blackmailed, bribed, extorted and murdered, etc that we will never get the whole story.  All I am sure of at this point is that there was one or more entities pulling Epstein’s strings and he was used to gain leverage over a lot of so-called β€œhigh powered people” (political, entertainment, business, etc) for someone or something higher up the food chain’s benefit.  The various methods he used to gain this leverage are so vile and evil that whoever and whatever he was doing it for will go to ANY length to make sure the truth never gets out.  I’m in the camp of getting it all out there and let the chips fall where they may, so if Trump truly is guilty like you’re dying for him to be, then so be it.  Yes, I voted for him and I support the majority of his policies because he is not the typical political insider that was groomed to become POTUS.  I believe the system is broken and he is an agent of change and to change the system some eggs have to be broken.  As long as he is breaking those eggs and pissing off the right people, I’ll be happy but if he did in fact do what you’re so desperate to see him convicted of, then I will condemn him also.  I do not worship Trump or any mortal man (although I do have a very high amount of respect, love and admiration for my dad), only my Lord and Savior.  I’m also pretty sure that Epstein didn’t kill himself but that’s another whole discussion.  Finally, I’m not that worried about starting a thread about Trump pardoning Maxwell because if he does I’m certain you’ll be all over it before anyone else would have a chance.

Now, go ahead and down vote, make a meme, get me banned, or do whatever it is that you feel you need to do to make yourself feel smarter or superior.  Have the best day ever.

And to think, this asshole was actually considered a viable candidate for the vice presidency.

But then again, he was a perfect fit for the running mate.
