Noticed Vickie Golden hasn’t been mentioned much but she still rips, not sure where she would stack up against today’s bunch but she can still fly.

I saw Vickie when she was racing Arena Cross many years ago. I think it was a year before she tried qualifying for SX. She ran close to the front the entire night and every bit deserved to be there. The whoops that night were massive and she ran right through them without a problem.

Those AX guys are no freaking joke and Vickie was right in there with them. She is fast.

Big props to all the lady racers. My wife is a longtime rider and racer (got her first streetbike at 16) and has worked in the industry most of her career. Troy Lee hired her personally, she worked at KTM/Husqvarna, Thor, Alta, Sena, and how Harley Davidson. So I'm here for it and love seeing more gals out ripping. But don't think for a second there still isn't some serious misogyny going on in the industry still. I've sat in meetings where the topic of women athletes and sponsorship came up and half the room laughed at the notion. Fucking gross.

But it is still very much a numbers game. For every one girl you have on a bike, there are 8-9 times more guys, at least. (Women make up about 19% of the total motorcycle industry, and skew towards streetbikes). Just look around the pits at your local practice day.

Point is, with a smaller pool of potential talent, the ones to rise to the top, and the ones that truly have elite speed (like elite out of everyone, men and women) is very very very small. Just statistics. That's why it is important to shine a light on these competitors, to continue to inspire other women to take up the mantle and get riding.

FWIW in roadracing there has been the argument over the years that 'women just won't be able to race at the true top level' and at best will just maybe qualify for the men's races, but just this year in MotoAmerica we've seen Kayla Yaakov have a breakout season capturing her first poles, podiums, and leading laps in a very tough class against top tier talent. Out qualifying heavyweight guys like Josh Herrin, Josh Hayes, PJ Jacobson, Darryn Binder, and Tyler Scott. She's the real deal, and a win is just around the corner. https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/motoamerica-yaakov-on-supersport-p…

Keep riding, keep pushing, and keep cheering on these gals, because all boats rise with the tide.

"Women make up about 19% of the total motorcycle industry"

That sounds high to me.  What is that percentage based on?

Can your top local amateur A class riders in most states beat them? I raced Lisa Akin in 125 B class many years ago on her home track (Red Bud) and beat her easily. Not bragging just bringing perspective. I'm curious if anyone knows.

dude, lisa used to beat jeff stanton.  can you beat jeff stanton.   clarify what year

Dave, while you may be correct it was very early and I believe when they were in 80B (correct me if I’m wrong) but Jeff progressed quickly from that point on. Lisa was a lot faster than people realize especially at Red Bud from what I remember. On another note when I was up for the Red Bud national last year it was fun catching up with Jeff and Lisa and Amy while I was there and all the old Dirt Works guys I hadn’t seen in over 30+ years! I was hoping to run into your old man as he continues to be one of my hero’s, I can’t believe he is still racing at his age!

I took a friend to a couch AMA national last year of Steel city. He kept saying he, never racing motocross could beat the women. He had a Polaris Predator, I told him he did not have the suspension let alone the Predator was way to heavy. He said I have Fox shocks, I LMAO and told we would go practice at the local track the next week end. He jogged and worked out so he felt he was in good enough riding shape to be fast for 20min. Well we get to the track and he makes one lap and pulls off, falls to the ground and is breathing super hard cussing me. I had been riding my own track and racing at this track, no way I could jog a mile, but I was in riding shape. I was laughing and making fun of him and reminding him what he said the weekend before. Needless to say he never went back to the track with me.

So I know the Ladies are faster than I ever was.

Some of these women are gnarly. Ava Silvestri raced WMX Saturday 9-DNS, then won pro women Sunday at the West Hare Scramble race in Idaho Sunday. She also races the Nation Hare and Hound series and NGPC beating most of the A class guys that those. Not ashamed to say she's beat me before at a NHHA race and I race Open A. These women are the real deal.

Jarvis showed up at our AQ, raced a bike she had never been on and still put in some of the fastest times of the day. I was super impressed.

My wife beat me in our first ever moto together (the only moto she has ever beat me  haha).  For moto I was a local “A” rider and she was a WMX racer transitioning to EnduroX/Offroad as women’s moto was dying off at the time.  She could hang with Sipes and Pastrana on a turn track.

I also got to ride with OGs Ashley Fiolek and Vicki Golden quite a bit and they are also awesome overall riders.

For the new gen I’ve gotten to ride with Racyn Kyler and Olivia Reynolds and they are very impressive.

The WMX (and all pros) are much faster than they look from the TV. The ladies rip!

My son grew up racing Charli's Brother mostly. But has raced Charli many times. She was racing the mens class in MX2 Aussie nationals a few times. Yes she isn't as fast. But she is surprisingly competitive against alot of the men in Australia.  Does push the envelope more than you would think. She will crash and bounce back and full speed again.

I know the first time she raced La La she smoked her. So i was surprised to see the difference once they went to America.

I believe whole heartedly this newer crop of women racers are next level by far to the ones from yesteryear.

Motorcycle Industry Council data based on dealership sales, ownership registrations, OEM reporting, etc.

My wife has been Regional & National Sales Manager for two different OEMs, PR Department for a third, and I was marketing for a fourth 👍🏻

It's between 20-30% depending on the discipline.

I'm not doubting you, but that's still hard to believe.  In my life, I would think it's closer to 10%.
