I think it speaks volumes of Emigs character that he was willing to race when the lights went out in Vegas when everyone had already agreed not to.

Give the King the respect he deserves, Fro. You chased him for your entire career.

I’m a Fro fan and loved their battles but after Fro won the championship he tanked like nothing anyone has seen before. Complete head case back then. Heck, even RacerX had Fro on the cover with the caption “what is wrong with Jeff Emig”.

Agreed. It was a depleted field and an easy win. 😂

I do understand the safety reasons for  not racing, but it was cool of him and some  others to race to give the fans what they paid for.

I see that. The annoying thing is once again, the people in charge are catering to the ones that don’t know shit about the sport. Anyone that is core knows what the 90s was about. We don’t need this fake animosity to remember.

Think he's the only champ to not win a race the following year.... though webb is very fortunate for the triple crown format because he would have joined that club.

Ehh...MC and Fro know the level of racing they were at back then and you know both their ego's were soaring.  I remember being at Glen Helen in 2004 and I saw Fro passing by with his posse of cling-ons and I shouted over "hey Fro....who's winning 125's?"  This was when Stewart decided to race the 250F for that last round.  He didn't break stride....he didn't even look over....he just said "Is there any doubt" with some attitude and kept on walking.  Part of me thought it was kinda cool but part of me was like what a pompous ass.  I had some run-ins with MC around his Bud Light KTM days and he was cool as could be.

Hate may be a strong word, but MC does not care for Fro. He always low key talks down about him. MC is smart and a businessman however. He sees there is a market for this video and collaboration. I had dinner with Fro a while back and he was telling me about developing this project. They had just reached out to MC to get him on board with it. I don't know if it will be detailed in the video, but there was not only bad blood on the track, there was bad blood off the track with some girls.

That’s what I remember hearing. There was bad blood between Emig and McGrath over a girl.

And if that’s true there no way they still have beef. Both are happily married with families are they not?

I’m treading very lightly here, I know it’s blasphemy to speak ill of the King.

But it’s crazy to me is the grudge he still holds against Fro to this day.. It’s almost a little immature (please don’t come after me with pitchforks, I love MC)

Now obviously we don’t know the extent of the reasons to their beef, but it appears to be one sided.. Fro appears very open and mature these days, you would have to imagine they are both very different people to the 20 year old versions of themselves, speaking of myself I’m an extremely different person from what I was in my 20’s and you would think there is a level of respect for being rivals

Shit even Reed and Stew patched things up.. RC is friends with Matthes and JT.

Again, there may have been some big lines crossed between the two and it’s not our business, but the hate there is real..

Just makes me more excited to see Moto 90’s when it comes out, would love to know more!

Emig has always had a smug air about him and Jer usually acts like he has a chip on his shoulder

McGrath was so dominant in his SX prime that it was unreal. It was almost like he was putting up Wilt Chamberlain numbers compared to his contemporaries. Just like Wilt, later generations who didn’t actually witness it tend to downplay it as ‘back in the old days’ sort of stuff. Every generation gets a little bit faster because of improved machinery, building upon previously introduced techniques, and thousands of other things that evolve the sport.

MC, like a lot of athletes who dominated in the past, is a little bit sensitive of people forgetting or downplaying just how great he was. He’s shown that in the past. Remember when people first started using the GOAT moniker for RC?  It really got under MC’s skin and he went out of his way to try to remind everyone that he was the true King of Supercross.

There are times when it seems like Emig’s persona has evolved into the ‘people’s champ’ from that era, and that probably hasn’t went unnoticed by MC.

Champions have egos. That’s a big part of what drives them to be champions. Usually the more dominant the champion, the bigger the ego becomes. Some hide it better than others. I think Ricky Johnson has had flashes of wanting/needing to remind people of how great he was in his prime. Now he seems like he’s mellowed out about that and even become somewhat self deprecating.

Just a guess but I’d say that the recent MC vs Emig stuff is partially manufactured to try to generate more buzz for the upcoming movie, and partially MC’s ego still needing to remind everyone how dominant of a champion he was in his prime.

I’ve always felt like MC got shelved rather fast when RC came to the top, not saying RC didn’t deserve the praise but never felt like they revered MC the way they do with RC. RCs total career is insane, utter domination across the board once he figured out SX, but 72 race wins is just absurd. I don’t think people understand how insane that is because they don’t present MC like they should. I’d have a chip on my shoulder too. Like you said, all champions do, egos are what drive them, MC was just the best at hiding his. 👑

I ran into MC a few times back in the 90s and while he was busy, he always took the time to sign something for people or shake someone’s hand and did it with a smile. To be fair fro was very cool with fans too.

this is all manufactured as APL pointed out. Having said that can’t wait to see the project!

Sometimes for unknown reasons humans do not like one another. May be the case here. Can anyone say they like everyone whether offended by them or not? As far as the competitors I think what you see more often is tolerence for professional reasons or general courtesy, not necessarily friendship.

2- a woman (pussy) can do that too, sometimes even between two good friends let alone the competition like what happened here.

Yeah, I could see both of them being great with anyone that they aren’t competing for wins with!

Hannah hated most of the guys he lined up with who actually had a chance to beat him. Some worse than others and there were a few exceptions like Tripes. But he got along really well with privateers who were usually outside the top 10.

Funny how that works…..!
