We have all seen the mini dads running around the infield on foot screaming "GO GO GO" at their kids...that can be annoying but it is really harlmess for the most part. But what about the mini dads who insist on having their small kids with little experience ride on the track with big bikes? That is just idiotic to me.
I was at a nice moto facility riding last weekend. This is a multi track facility, mind you, with something for every skill level and age group. Wouldn't you know it, every time I was on the advanced track there was some mini dad jackoff riding along behind his kid, who looked to be about 4 yrs old. The kid was on a 50 and kept falling over.... and over and over in the deep sand of this track. Of course dad (most likely thinking he is raising the next Johnny O'Hannah) must have thought this was great practice for the kid- picking the bike up all by himself 10 times per lap. This kid crashed on straightaways, in turns, going up jumps and riding back down the other side. He crashed everywhere, over and over and he was barely bigger than a toddler.
The advanced track that this facility is sandy and has huge jumps. You could not see a grayhound bus parked on the downside of most jumps because the faces are so big much less a toddler picking up his bike. I suppose jackoff mini dad thought the fact that he was riding right behind the kid would prevent the two of them from being used as a landing ramp should the kid crash at the wrong time in the wrong place...but he is wrong. Here I am trying to put in some good laps and I am the one who has to look out for this kid's saftey because dad is too stupid to take his kid over to the kids track. Oh no, he ( being the next O'Hannah)must ride the advanced track.
Next time I see this idiot, I am going to tell him he is putting his kid in grave danger and it is only a matter of time before the kid crashes on the downside of a huge jump and gets creamed while struggling with his bike

They are exposing themselves to a huge liability.
If they have a beginner track they should be directing him over there.

Sounds like an issue for whoever was running the track, I assume at a place big enough to have more than one track there was some management around? I'd go to them first, because any Dad ignorant enough to put his kid in that situation would probably be the type to start swinging if you confronted him. Fights suck no matter what, but fights with a kid watching - bad deal.

I will never forget the scream that kid let out when I hit him that day and the sinking feeling I had when I heard it as I thought he was badly injured or worse, lucky he was just winded and a bit battered and bruised.
This however is also one of my pet peeves, when Jackass moto dads send there 14 y.o. expert rider over to spin some laps on the PeeWee track. They haul ass around and pretty much scare the kids on the PW's. So, it goes both ways. Motorcycles attract idiots like fly's to shit!

Least you admit your problem, thats a huge start in the right direction, the worst MDJ's or (Dad Jackasses) are the ones that have never raced but given the chance will tell you everything you don't know about MX riding .

I see Dad's yelling at their kids and I kind of understand some of the intensity. The push. But, there's a gray area and then there is crossing the line. That gray area can be pretty broad in just watching them for a few minutes.
That dad was also the whiniest bitch I've ever seen. The track was always too hard and never groomed enough for his kid.
Sometimes it's hard to manage as people are busy running the race and new people come up to the track all the time. I've seen the same thing at MX tracks to, even guys on brand new 250's or 450's who have no idea how to ride going so slow in open practices they cause problems for the average rider which end up in collisions on blind spots.
meaning, don't fucking stop in the middle of the track and cut across 3 lanes to get to a different part without looking.
broke my arm when a kid on an 80 cut across the lanes of a track, i was landing in a rythem section and hit his bike square on. the little guy didn't wreck, just spun a complete 180. i on the other hand ate shit hard as i ever have and walked away with a broken arm and a concussion.
dudes dad then has the nerve to come jump my shit because his boy got knocked down by me, a fast pro, and i should have my ass kicked.

1) We've all seen these idiot fathers and you have to wonder how much damage these "men" are doing to their sons.
2) Do you work for a living and/or are you an aspiring pro? I just cringe when I read "100 foot triple step up" as IMHO amateur riders have ZERO business facing obstacles like that.
Tracks with too gnarly of obstacles are just as much a threat to our sport as the rising cost of racing is.
There's a track near me with fairly tall "blind" jumps, without flaggers or an enforced split practice system. The entire track is nearly a continuous rhythm section, and for whatever reason, every time I went there, there was at least one mini during the day that would fall in between jumps and couldn't get up immediately and on more than one occasion was landed on. I stopped going there since there were 3 other tracks nearby that did have managed practice.
I personally think think that a motocross track is a bad place to learn the basics of riding. Kids should at minimum have the skills to simply navigate a track without falling down before putting themselves and others in danger. People are out there going as fast as they can, practicing for racing; it's not harmless play. Dad, go find your kid some trails or at least a facility with a mini track until he's up to speed.

In five years we never had a collision between a small rider and a full sized rider and only for one reason: they were never on the track at the same time.
but i know exactly where you're talking about down at 215, i about creamed someone down there as they were pulling onto the track before the finish line as i was landing the double before the corner and railing the corner.
i think track etiquette should be strictly enforced, as should separate practices for little guys/skill levels.
My dad was good friends with Johnny Marleys dad and they would get into competitions to see who could be the biggest motherfucker to their child.

But my dad never stopped being a mini dad. Just because I distanced myself from motorcycles doesn't mean he stopped finding shit to yell at. Coffee cup, school, etc... doesn't matter.
You can take a miniDad out of the moto, but you can't take the motherfucker out of a miniDad.
why not make it that there is No signaling to the riders on the track till they hit 85's, yelling at ANY kid on the track isn't going to help his/her speed or concentration.
