Watts Perfections scammer

For the sake of my beloved motocross community, I am warning everyone to do their research before hiring an engine builder. I regrettably referred Chad Watts. Yes, That Chad Watts, of Watts perfections to my 52-year-old buddy who has cancer and wanted to build his old late 80's 250R 4-wheeler as a fun project. Chad quoted him over 10K to trick out and rebuild the old motor. My friend sent him $5100 and his motor in January of 2024! Chad has been elusive and claims he is busy. I finally reached out to him for a demand of money back in December of 2025 and told him I would go public with this as no one should be defrauded. He begged me not to and asked for 2 weeks to come up with the money. We even said keep the motor. We just wanted to cut our loses. After a few weeks of hounding Chad sent a picture of a check noting REFUND in the Memo line. The check was never received. He then said he would send another check which he didn't. I spoke to him Friday of last week and he said he would forward a tracking number. Never did. So....Buyer beware. I have all the receipts and text massages to back up our claim. My buddy filed a small claims (under 10k in Indiana) lawsuit and once that gets put into record I will post the link here. If anyone else has been defrauded, please reach out to me as this may become a criminal issue. Stay safe out there!

I don't know if he's a scammer but he got fired when he was RCs mechanic for a reason so could be the same issue still. whiskey-diet-monkey-reverse

Sent a 07 CR 250 cylinder, head and crank to him about 7-8 years ago. Wasn't easy getting my stuff back, was a huge ordeal, think it was close to a year?  Once I finally got it back the work was impeccable and the bike ripped! Really a shame because the guy is talented!

What kind of absolute filthy a-hole downvotes a post about a guy with cancer being ripped off for $5k?

You need to take a look in the mirror and have a real hard think on life!!!

He wasn’t fired, he left.

He had a problem, the pressure made it worse and he couldn’t handle it anymore. He said working with RC at Honda was a lot of pressure.

Seems weird to call a company and demand they refund someone else's money.

Chad Watts and Terry Varner should start a business together, Rich Taylor can be their test rider 😁

Just seems weird, that's not usually how businesses operate.

If his buddy didn't have enough energy to make a phone call, how would buddy be able to get to the mailbox to see if there is a refund check?

I'd say the cancer is the most insignificant part of the story. It puts extra sting on it, but if buddy was healthy would it change the situation?

Maybe it would have avoided going to small claims court?   Don't lawyers like to send letters to get things resolved before going to court?

People do dumb and sketchy shit all the time in business. Someone recently contracted me to do work for them because their own business didn’t know what to do. The customer paid the person who hired me, but then the person who hired me just kept the money and didn’t pay me. There are tons of people out there who are dishonest.

You think this guy just randomly decided to put Chad Watts on blast and made up a story about his friend having cancer for theatrical effect? Good luck in life . . .

My friend sent a motor to Chad Watts. Services weren't performed in a reasonable time.

I called and asked Chad Watts to refund my friend's money.

He agreed and sent a refund.
My friend said he didn't receive the refund.

We're going to court but I can't show you proof.

Yeah, I think I'll withhold judgement on this one.

Customers also do dumb shit and try to scam companies all the time.   I'm not saying that's happening here, but based on the details provided it doesn't seem worthy of a lynch mob (yet).

Get on board the bandwagon with me!  We need numbers because then we can't all be wrong!   Or atleast, if we are all wrong, then I can preserve my ego knowing that all of us got tricked, not just me.

Good luck to you in life, hopefully one of these bandwagons gets you somewhere you want to be.

And you are wrong as usual, he was told he was being replaced so he could leave or be terminated. Why don't you sign in under one of your other user names so I can argue with all three of you.

Call any business and ask to get a refund for a different customer, I'd love to hear the results.

Show yourself Chad !!!

The closest I've been to Chad Watts is I knew someone that bought a used bike with a Watts' built engine.
