They are just going to pick pins on the line for finish position. Moto is too dangerous.
It’s valid point, any first turn pile ups likely won’t be cleared by the time the leaders come back through that second rhythm.
At least there're three right turns this week. Glendale only had two. It's tough without an over/under.
I had the same thought when I saw the track map, hopefully no read flags due to a first turn pileup.

With the short time to build...the track may not even look like that..
You’re so core bro!!
I pointed this out in another post but yeah it's sketchy AF.
Any crash that isn't 1 or 2 guys and a quick pick up will result in a red flag
They should re-route so that the first corner loops around the 180, and thus the rhythm lans does not have have to cut across the start straight but instead end before. That way the rhythm is also more continuous and thus longer and better for passing.
Edit (replaced initial drawing with rendered version of fixed track)
Wouldn't a first turn sand corner be awesome! LOVE the idea!!!
Sexton hits gate, just waits for pack to come back by first turn, jumps right in instead of being 6 sec down, he's right on 21st place!
I love how it all went from bench racing back in the day to now everyone is an expert and knows better than the people putting on the event.
Isn’t the first time they’ve routed the first turn like this. Usually doesn’t cause problems because the start straight doesn’t narrow down as hard and the more open first turn makes crashes less likely. basically the opposite of Glendale
The grown ups are talking here lil buddy.
We have flaggers for a reason.
I can’t believe they have a mechanics area this weekend once again. Think of the safety of the smx next.
No, sorry the drawing I made was a bit confusing, but the sand corner wouldn't be part of the first corner. You can build a track such that the sand ends before the first corner, with the first corner cutting across it but have it so that the first corner goes deeper so you have more room to fit the bowl corner on the inside.
Going to be extra sketchy for the staggered restart after a red flag.
This is what I meant earlier, think this track layout would fix all problems and provide great racing, probably the most bowl turns in quite a while.
Something like this, with a wall jump maybe at the end of the sand.
I was going to say this about Spudnick's suggestion. Don't build an all-new lane, just route the start all the way into the sand.
