A set of Dirt Tricks sprockets with a sealed chain (I use Firepower X-ring) is good for 100 hours or more.  They weigh less than twin ring sprockets, too.  No chain maintenance, either.  Just hit it with a little WD-40 after you wash the bike to prevent any rust.  I haven’t bought a can of chain lube in a decade.  My bike stays a lot cleaner, too.

Does silicone spray prevent rust or shed water?  I know that's what WD-40 was designed for, so that's what I've always used.  Never had a problem with WD-40 eating the O-rings, but maybe I'll give silicone a try next time.

I was a dirt tricks guy for a long time but had a rear sprocket fail that wiped out a wheel and swingarm. Luckily it happened on the ground not in the air. Currently running a twin ring on my 350. I’m guessing I got the rare one that had some sort of defect because I had zero problems in the past. I keep thinking about going back to one but can’t quite do it yet. IMG 9492 4

Did the hub fail?  If not, I'm trying to figure out how the sprocket was deformed like that.

If I had to guess, a sprocket bolt or two was lose and the movement of the bolt caused the hub to fail.  This in turn caused the sprocket to fail.  If the sprocket was able to fail while still mounted to an intact hub, I'd love to know how that went down.

I’ve had good luck with RMATV primary chain/sprocket kit. To be honest I was a little skeptical at first because the complete kit is about 100 bucks. Now I’ve been through about 5 sets without issues. For piece of mind I change out my chain/ sprockets at about 15-20 hr mark, even when they still look decent. Probably wouldn’t do that if it cost twice as much.

My choice. Felt comfortable trying the chain because its an 8942 tensile strength where as the ert3 i used in the past was 8300. Probably overthinking anyhow. Lol

19 hour stock chain vs new chain.

Dirt Tricks and a ERT3 for MX or a DID VT2 x-ring (KTM OEM part number 78010267118) for enduro 👍

Ive had good luck with JT racelite for cheap aluminum sprockets and firepower x-ring chain for those on a budget.

@Trailturd Curious how many hours you are getting out of the JT aluminum sprocket? Its enticing at the pricepoint. I feel like all of the aluminum rears should be pretty similar wear wise.

I've got 50 hours on my current JT racelite and it's still in good condition. The teeth aren't sharp or hooked yet, some of the anodizing has worn off from mud races and the chain guide rubbing on it but that's it.

Renthal sprockets for life and either RK Chain or DID.

I have 32 hours on my jt racelite and it seems to be in pretty good condition. Definitely worth the money IMO

Anyone ran an x or an o ring on the 18 and up RMZ 450?

Looks tight with a standard 520.
