The point is moot. But that’s what they told me.

For the amount of money that would cost, it would be easier to build the track inside a road race circuit LOL.

To be fair, proper traffic management , so the lane is one way for the duration of the event ( or at least the busy times) would alleviate that, but you can only get the big rigs in from one end, they do stuff like that for festivals and the like, but as RobGVX says, it irrelevant, the club wont take on that level of risk, they distance themselves from the International, as much as possible risk wise, the track gets used more now than it ever did back in the regardless of the Infrastructure, and they do manage a lot with not many people.  It will never not be a joy to be there in February.

Valence gets postponed to Feb 15th due to heavy rains the past days. The track is flooded.

Be interesting to see who goes there, and who comes to Hawkstone.

IMO , once your date has gone, its gone.

The two start lists were totally different. So I guess it wont be a problem.

I looked for start list for Valence before i posted and didnt find one.

Its not uncommon,  i remember Beaucaire in the South of France being a regular early season race back in the day, that ended up going away because of the weather killed in 2 years in a row.

When the GP season didnt start stupidly early, National championships would probably have had 2 rounds before the first GP's but now it is way too risky to run races that early in the season , that are Championship related.

Brian HSU  in MX1  . I was wondering what had happened to him.

We have Davy Pootjes in MX1 for the Motul British, him and Hsu came through together but never made an impact ( other than on the ground)  in MX2 after both being touted as the 'next big things' .

In the Corona year Hsu did a couple of GPs in mx2 and i think he even got a top 10. In 2025 he was riding mx2 in italian championship and got some podium finishes.

Concerning Beaucaire international race, I think you're mistaken about the reason that ended the event in the early 2000's (last edition was 2002). It has nothing to do with the weather (It was already Valence International race who struggled a few times with those bad conditions though). The only one year Beaucaire suffered very bad weather during the 90's was 1993 for the french 250cc GP.

I know we were going to go one year and it didnt run ( i think) , what was the reason for it stopping ?

From what I remember, it became more and more difficult for the Beaucaire moto club to organize the event (dealing with various legal obligations)... And over time, I've heard that the owner of the field had others more lucrative projects than a motocross track there...

Barry Turnbull CR500 87 at Hawkstone Int 2017 - look at Husky Mechanics

I've posted this picture many times, but I truly love the looks from the Husky Mechanics, the Camera bloke, and Paulin, as Barry Turnbull pushes his '87 into the pre grid area.

He hasn't been there the last couple of years, I think - at least on an Old Beast.

Are they going up The (long) Hill this year?

Tax reasons. The government claimed that the start money for the top riders was indeed a salary and if you implement the heavy French employment taxes to that start money, it almost doubles the cost. The result has been the killing of the (then) numerous French international MX meetings.

Are they going up The (long) Hill this year?

As you said , he has missed the past few years sadly, he is just a local guy from up North, doesnt race as much now, his brother restores plastic tanks , and does a great job.  I am certain that if he was in , the would have announced.

I got to stand behind him for startgate practice last time he raced, the bike sounded awesome.

Hill will be weather dependant, its been wet the past few weeks , and it washes the sand off the top. its a big job to get it back to how it needs to be, but they always do the best they can.

What was the name of the French Pre-Season race that the venue started with a 'B', that had the reputation that those who won it, wouldn't win the 500CC World Championships?

Though, perhaps Eric Geboers   broke that jinx?

I don't think it was Beaucaire, but, could be wrong.

Robgvx has posted a few reminiscences about that event, here, previously.

Tax reasons. The government claimed that the start money for the top riders was indeed a salary and if you implement the heavy French employment taxes to that start money, it almost doubles the cost. The result has been the killing of the (then) numerous French international MX meetings.

Thanks Xavier. I always wondered why French internationals died.

Does the government tax problem not also affect the Paris Supercross?

I never got invited to race Beaucaire, although I did practice at that track once.
